I honestly thought this was his best season since the magnificent 2012. Arguably better, certainly more selfless.

inarguably better I reckon

goal of the century in the qualifying, nearly killed Sheil in the Prelim, Skippered a premiership.

pretty hard to top

His leadership during the finals was Hodge like.

Agreed Oldie. I think it was better, but all the attention was on Dusty who also had a stellar season. Many observers didn't really seem to notice Cotch until the finals. Anyone know how many Brownlow votes he polled?

Cotch & Tross both 8 votes

As senior players, Cotchin and Steve Smith had great years .
As leaders, Cotchin is far superior to the giggling, immature, not confident Smith.

I have confidence that Cotch will lead his men and keep the players grounded for a crack at back to back.
A fantastic conduit between the senior coach, leadership group and playing group.

The worst thing about him not being picked for the All Australian team was that he wasn't even picked for the All Australian squad of 40. Prior to the squad of 40 being announced, many on SEN and other shows were discussing that he was the potential All Australian captain. Then they don't even name him in the squad of 40. From memory they named 8 Adelaide players in the squad of 40 and only 2 from Richmond. This from a team that won the same amount of games as Richmond during the regular season (1 less for the whole season :rofl).

I agree that this was one of Cotchin's best year, it shows how the so called experts don't have a clue.

Cotchys numbers up on rfc.

maintained his season possession average through finals, while elevating his CP by 15% and his tackles by 45%.

an extraordinary finals campaign.

one of the greats

Really matured and has grown into a fine leader. Completely undervalued before his stellar finals campaign. However after his September I think his stocks have risen dramatically. When it counted he showed the way and it didn't go unnoticed. A premiership captain... His legacy will forever be etched in Tiger history and what could be more rewarding than that? Completely got his just rewards last season.

His finals campaign was amazing! :clap :clap :clap :clap

He clearly was intent on answering the criticism of previous years.

In each final - there was a moment - where he simply did the incredible/team lifting action :clap :clap :clap

Forever in your debt Sir Trent!

Such impressive stats. Really tells a story.
He plays like a battering ram. Did not see that in his early years.
Ferocity at the ball and the man was amazing. He's one tough b#stard.

It is the tackling that turned cotch from a good to great player and captain

I’d say it was hardness at the contest. He showed the way and they followed.

Mind you, that pick up, blind turn and goal wasn’t too bad either.

Cotchy also became more forward thinking with the ball... confidence in his team will do that.

Yep. His perfect hair & calm demeanor off field belies a brute at the football. Contested beast.

Cotchy made joel selwood look like troy menzel through September

I reckon with Jack Graham strolling into the guts, with a look on his face like he's about to eat a souvlaki.

Cotchy is going to be even better next year.

Him, Dusty and young Jack to trifecta the brownlow I reckon ;D

I believe that in 2018 we will see Josh Caddy being used more in the midfield than we did in 2018 with Callum Moore ready to step up to AFL

I can see Moore playing Foward with Caddy and Townsend being played more midfield than in 2017
