Still going in about this on SEN this morning.

Saying that there was a deadlock, 2-2 and someone overruled it.

Someone had the say to allow Cotch to play.

Massive overhaul heading.

Apparently they were locked in discussions for 2 HOURS according to Sam McClure?

Hopefully it was Benny Gale telling them we'd just put 15,000,000 into their coffers over the last 2 weeks. Make it so.

Chocco Williams, who is also an impartial voice in the debate, talking about Shiel being cheated out of playing the prelim.

I Shiel really said those things he needs to toughen up. I am not sure if the tables was turned and Shiel was in Cotchin's position that he would feel right missing out on a grand final because he went hard and low for a ball in a 50-50 contest. In my opinion, we knew Shiel was coming into the game with shoulder issues and taking every opportunity to hit it. If that worried him he shouldn't have taken the field in the first place.

Cotchin has been running on thin all season. Was that a hit worth a suspension? The AFL dosent know why would the average bloke at home know.
But the non stop sniggering all year about our players and our entire team, is *smile*.
We might have over 100000 supoorters, but the haters are out there too.
Dwayne Russell, Roo's, the Scott brothers, the Parrot, Brownless, Cornes, the list is long.
The best way of shoving all this up their ass's, is to slap Adelaide off the G.

Only a few ex-players have correctly pointed out that Shiel failed to protect himself. This 'head is sacrosanct' paranoia has overruled one of the oldest and most common sense rules in the game: Never put your head where your arse will fit. Shiel reached in for the ball, he did not take the space. It was a tentative play by him and in this case, it proved true another old axiom, that you're more likely to get hurt when you're trying not to.

Trent Cotchin lined up Dylan Shiel and knocked him out. Dylan Shiel was BOG at the time. Then our man got off. It's a great country.

Listening to talk back this morning and yesterday i am totally sick of this whole issue.

The argument is that Cotchin tucked his elbow in to bump.

That it wasn't intentional but it was careless

That as Mark Williams said, he didn't put both his arms down to pick up the ball as Dillon Shiel had.

The head is sacrodsant bla bla

LOOK AT THE VIDEO OF THIS INCIDENT YOU FOOLS

Let's assume Cotchin put both arms down, what would have the result been? They would have clashed heads and both players would have been knocked out cold.

Tucked the elbow in? Isn't that the first thing any junior footballer is asked to do. Rory Sloane didn't. He put the bumper bar up and caught Dangerfield right under the chin, but apparently thats ok.

Careless................. Who was careless? Cotchin tucked up and went as low as he possibly could unless he crawled in on hands and knees. Shiel is the one who was careless as he turned towards the contest and led with his head.

We all know about the family connection Mark Williams but stop being a whining flog, you're better than that.

As for Shiel feeling cheated by the system, or Callum Ward having a sook, if you don't like physical contact fellas, then you're in the wrong sport. Possibly why you guys can't go the next step when the heat really gets turned up. May i suggest mixed netball, butterfly catching or stamp collecting.

:rofl

Here I am (and frik, great post) arguing Cotch did everything right and Shiel was the one who made the error, and you skittle us with that. Well played.

Don't worry about it mate. We won, they lost. They can all suck eggs.

The Richmond haters are back and it's great to be alive.

My take.
Cotch thinks quicker than almost every player in the comp.
He's capable of sizing up the opportunity and in a heart beat work out........
"Go low.
Turn my body.
Hit Shiel hard.
Simultaneously push the ball forward - then take possession".

All this worked out in the blink of an eye.

Our boy is a genius footballer.

Nathan Burke explained the decision pretty well. He said that there is a misconception that if a player hurts their head in a collision, or while going for the ball, then the other player is automatically at fault - if players are going for the ball then head high contact can still be incidental or accidental.

The wankers in the media seem to be suggesting Cotchin is at fault for going in too hard.

*smile* they are sooking. Love it.

BTW that was one of the great preliminary finals games. Ever.

He'll play bloody well this week.

Teams that only zone and rotate Chimp generally excels against. Especially when the stakes are high.

Yeah, Finey hammered at that all last evening when nuffies called in. He also said he'd hate to see risk taken out of the game, because the need for courage would go with it. It was great listening.

Jack's right. Chimp went hard at Shiels while going for the ball. Wanted to cause some pain. Not sure Chimp wanted him concussed, but hit him hard enough to make Shiel take short steps the next time he saw Chimp coming.

This should be subtitled against that Italian(?) dude who gets YouTubed all the time.

I hear you. Amen to that.

I have been telling all my Collingwood and Carlton supporting friends that we now need our two partners-in-crime to come good. Then the Big 3 can terrorise the competition again and all the minnow clubs can all whinge about how unfair it all is again.
