Training For Redemption in 2022

Maybe thats the plan for Nigel. Play him on their best small forward. He's quick and tough so it makes sense.

Allows Short and Rioli to run off all day long if we do that.
The summer snippet clip on RFC re: Mansell talks about exactly that, he's been working on doing that all summer. That'll be his role

I have extremely high hopes for Hugo. Will be a star.
I do as well and really like his talent and did so since before he was drafted , He is still a little too outside but im hoping in time his inside game will develop more and can be a good balanced mid/fwd

Im hoping he will become a similar type of player to Cam Guthrie

What? Get injured in big games?

Daniel Rioli off HB was interesting.
Clearly the preferred player to go to from defensive setups. He went ok but missed a few targets he really should have hit which was a bit disappointing.
At this stage he's no certain Houli replacement (no easy feat) but I'll cut him some slack as it was the first hitout. Actually thought Ralphsmith looked more dynamic off the backline but need to see more.
I think these small defensive roles are still up for grabs between Rioli, Short, Mansell & Ralphsmith. The later two the more impressive in yesterday's scratch match.
Unfortunately Dan's namesake in MJ had very little influence yesterday.

I agree on Riolis game yesterday however his sample size in actual games from last year has me a little more confidence moving into the season. Ralphsmith looked lively but his kicking is questionable.

Broady looks ready for another big year - thought he looked super. Caddy is the interesting one - thought he was very good to as a fwd.

Kick-In Tactics

Something I noticed in the game yesterday that also bothered me last season.

It seems our preference is too kick short to the pocket and then to a contest.

I just wish that from time to time that we'd take the 20m -25m on offer and kick long to the wing.

Anybody else got thoughts on this?

there seemed to be a set play to go to Danny?

Danny and/or Melee have released Bakes forward,

which is a helluva release.

If Noah does play forward, we'll hopefully encourage him to play the roaming Nick Reiwoldt role,

catch the exit kick,

and roost it 60m to bakes

I haven't watched all of the replay, just some of the 1st quarter.

I was surprised when I saw RCD because some have posted here that he is still a stick but he looks much bigger in the chest and shoulders to me. Not easy to see but that was my impression.

Agree Sin. RCD has definitely put on size. No longer looks like a kid just out of the under 18’s.

Agree with all that from yesterday.

Long term I'm not concerned about Dan's ball use, as I thought his kicking was great last year when he went back.

soldo V tank predominately with chopouts from Noah and a big preciously unseen bloke?

as expected, Soldo won hitouts and Nank around ground, although neither yielded by either measure

unusual forwards were bakes (4 goals BOG) and Noah (2 junk time goals - I said to Mr.B I think this will go the way of Vlastuins foray forward in '17) and Stack (who looked conspicuously slow - by reports was good in the 1st 1/3 so I suspect tweeked a groin or something that makes you look to slow and unaware to be true)

I think in terms of drifting forward for a goal, Nank and Soldo drew 1-1?

Gibcus gave Jack a bath, but I suspect Jack has his ego under a very tight rein, and is building the kids confidence.

but the kid looks an instant Jake Lever in every respect, except personality.

Im really pleased Jake Townsend is playing for Southport, and will never share a footy field with our Gibbo.

Some of you blokes need to lift your game ! Bagging Towner , seriously he is a premiership legend and did stuff in 17 that you blokes can only dream about ! Our players would be ashamed if they read half this stuff!! Be Better!!!
We've played against Towner for 2 years already. Are Southport are in the VFL? If so,Richmond will play against him for a 3rd year

Mansell played on Kosi Pickett last year. And Bailey for Lions. I think Mansell's great and in my best 23.

I thought RCD was impressive when in the midfield. At least 4 clearances for the game and a couple of goals against a far superior midfield. I was not there so obviously can’t comment on the around the ground play.
If RCD could do that for his entire career he would be in Dusty territory.
