Was nice to see a game where we weren’t reamed by the umps. A pleasant change
Loved what I saw today... I was in shock for a minute had to double take on Soldo, thought Maric made a comeback. Loved the Nank v Soldo ruck battle.
I'm still in awe of the Pickett side step.
Ralphsmith, good to see on the wing, love his run.
Seeing Caddy with some form early, hope he gets a look in this season.
Gibcus good young back, form will be up and down, but good battle with Jack.
Bakes throwing himself around was a concern - we haven't started the season don't risk it!
Prestia was here was there was everywhere!
Can't wait for next week now.
Jack was doing a lot of coaching.Had a very enjoyable catch-up on the Punt Rd Hill with the brains trust (and Redders).
Wasn't it Ryan in #46 for yellow relieving Soldo?
Agree on Gibcus/Jack. Wouldn't be surprised if Jack was coaching him too: "Okay, kid. You gotta expect me to lead here, so give me a body check...don't give me a run-up for this one..." etc. Saying that, Gibcus was very impressive. Seriously athletic kid. Will play R1 I reckon. (I said he's like Lever but taller, a better athlete, better kick and better bloke.)
Balta was good forward. That's Plan A from my read. Lead up at the man. It's not as complicated as these ex-mids like Mr B make out, it's just that you have an opponent.
We didn't notice The Sonz as much at the ground as you streamers did, but there were at least three moments that got the murmur of approval. One-touch, dual-sided, which we already knew. Clarke some nice things too. Both lace-out kicks.
RCD started brightly with some clearances and a good running banana goal in the first, as well as an excellent snap goal from a deliberate free. Ross was good but still thinks he has more time than he'll get in the bigs. Hugo was terrific off half-back, definitely the most improved. Will Martyn slipping to the back of the pack.
Bakes starred. Shai, Dion, Sheds, Cotchy all class in 3rd gear. Lynch running laps in rude health before the game, moving beautifully.
He was on Short so very little pressure.Watched the highlights on the website. Pressure level must have well down because Castagna did a left hand handball that didn’t hit his teammate’s boot laces
Keeping Parker was a bit generous. A bit of a shame we couldn't move caddy on. I just saw the last quarter. Caddy CAN play. Just no spot last year. See what happens this year.
Biggie did a couple of good things. Ditto gibcus. RCD: centre clearances late in the game. Maybe his tank is better.
Don’t see graham or lambert playing r1 ,,,what’s the rush , barely been out the medical room all pre seasonGlorified training run and towards the end of the game it was circle work.
When the game was at its hottest, Cotch, Prestia and Baker were the best.
As much as RCD, Caddy showed, does anyone really think they'll get picked once Dusty, Lynch, Graham and Lambert return? I don't.
Grain of salt for today. But it's a very good sign for depth as injuries will inevitably hit.
yep could def see him in more defensive role locking down on dangerous small forwardMaybe thats the plan for Nigel. Play him on their best small forward. He's quick and tough so it makes sense.
Allows Short and Rioli to run off all day long if we do that.
AgreedWas nice to see a game where we weren’t reamed by the umps. A pleasant change
I was told both sides lost the free kick countWas nice to see a game where we weren’t reamed by the umps. A pleasant change
Still got intensity issues at times.I thought RCD was impressive when in the midfield. At least 4 clearances for the game and a couple of goals against a far superior midfield. I was not there so obviously can’t comment on the around the ground play.
R1 will be a selection nightmare. On what I saw today Mansell and Ralph both walk ups but they will have to usurp premiership players if fit.Just watched the game.
How good was it to see big Soldo out there again, great to see, geez he's going to be important.
Observations of the Seniors on the field.
Chimpamania - Impressive along with Dion and Shai through the middle when out there.
JR8 just strolled around and did enough, and as stated by others he looked to be doing a lot of instruction and direction out on the field, as did Sheds.
Nank just only knows one way and impressed but did hold back a bit which was good lol,
Baker was damaging as a mid forward kicking 4 odd goals and Rioli Daniel was one of the best players for the yellow side.
Grimes like Jack just rolled the legs over, whilst Broad was everywhere and played a very good game with sure ball use.
Balta did some very nice things and, Stacky showed some very nice touches but was a little down I was hoping to see a bit more from him but that said his pre season has been good apparently.
Interesting to see Tigga cop one across the jaw late in the game from Shais shoulder and set him down for a few seconds hopefully nothing from that for Tigga.
George played high half forward and got involved kicking a few goals, and Caddy also had a decent outing. Short didn't really stand out either to be honest with most of the running from defence for the yellow side seemingly done by Rioli as opposed to Short..
Marlion and Grover played some time on each other but neither really had any significant impact on the game Marlion had a quieter start but got more involved as the game went on.
Aarts never really stood out with things looking like best 22 has passed him.
Moju was quiet, and Parkers disposal by foot was disappointing.
Miller was fairly unobtrusive but popped up a couple of times with some good contested work, and Biggie showed some good composure at times, and same for Cumberland who showed a couple of nice efforts.
Ralphy looks likely to be the junior from 21 to step up in 22 through the middle and will start applying pressure to Grover and Marlion for a spot.
RCD started well did a few nice things the trailed off a tad, and Mansell also did a few nice things and was in at the contests as expected.
Ross still; doesn't strike me as a player that is going to demand first 22 footy and Will Martyn's lack of pre season has him well back in the field.
Gibcus and the Sonz some good signs and exciting, Clarke played but didnt really notice him whilst Sambo, Banks, Brown and Dow DNP (happy to be corrected on this).
The two Islander lads both had a dip and the other VFL boys Henderson, Hicks, Maximus all had a go as well, with Maximus showing the most.
Lambo, Graham, Tommy and some bloke with tatts to walk into the side as well.
There is going to be the possibility we see some blokes playing in possies this season we may not have expected.
Nothing much to go by but each ensuing week from here on will tell a different tale.
At the ground noticed a few good things, went home & watched the replay & he stood out, really impressive considering he's only just come back from injury in recent weeks & has barely had a pre season.. the other 1 that really impressed me was Gibcus, he could be in the mix for a rd 1 debutI have a theory that the market doesn't like laconic and/or lack of charisma.
and I suspect The Sonz is laconic, and not very charismatic.
agree, he's exactly what we need.
very rare you see an 18yo attend every centre bounce in an intraclub.
Dusty trained right in front of me before the game as did the others. he looked fine as did Lynch, he looked like he could have played today to my very untrained eye (McQualter also said the same thing post game). P.S he's a real unit up closeMartin suffered a “niggle” in his hip/adductor on Thursday which the Tigers didn’t want to risk, but assistant coach Andrew McQualter said he would likely take on the Cats next week.
The 30-year-old, who hasn’t played suffering a lacerated kidney in a collision with Brisbane’s Mitch Robinson in Round 18 last year, did a solid early morning running session with Lynch.
Lynch was sharp in the running session and is ready to resume from his hamstring issue.
“Dustin was pretty close to playing, (it) was a slight hip issue and we expect him to be fine next week,” McQualter said.
“Lynchy … was pretty much at 100 per cent running. He probably could have played today. But it was not worth running the risk for an intra-club at this time of the year with those guys.
The tackling in general was "let's look after each other" which is self explanatory this time of year.At one point I heard Jack yell 'Easy, Easy.,' and went less than full throttle into a contest that would have removed Dylan Grimes' kidneys. They were ostensibly opposition.
They weren't playing for all the marbles.
I have extremely high hopes for Hugo. Will be a star.Ralphsmith by far the most impressive young player today. Run and carry plus delivery was very good.
I know that feeling. The last stubby for the night.agree, but the way he plays (n=1),
is disconcertingly Lever-like IMO.
runs off opponent, stretches for intercept - reads the incoming ball and intercepts - finds space for the switch outlet.
pretty incredible for an 18 yo 195 I reckon.
when Jack kicked his one goal, Gibbo reacted with the total devastation I feel
when Mrs.EZ has discovered the hidden last stubby in the fridge,
way back near the light, with the 6 month old greek yogurt and forgotten half jar of pad Thai paste standing guard,
while ive been on the tractor all day and my throat is full of Setaria seed
