Training For 2023

Good to hear. It was the around the ground clearances that we sucked at last year.

I know you get a few different rankings depending on source but I found this site where you can click on Centre Clearances, Stoppage Clearances & Total

Centre Clearances it has us ranked 2nd to Bulldogs
Stoppage Clearances it had us last.
Overall Clearances we ranked 17th

And defensive 50 stoppages, we just leak way too many goals. The Zurhaar one was just a complete disaster.

I have no idea where to find this (its probably a stat that us poor plebs are not given the chance to see), but I would hazard a guess if we weren't 18th last year for points conceded from defensive 50 stoppages, we'd have to be close. This to me, is where the big gain from improvements to our midfield comes from, lower scoring from these D50 stoppages.

I was at the GC game. I turned to my mate halfway through the third and said, "We could lose this." We ran out of legs. Far from our best side with no Dusty or Cotch and Lynch out in the first five minutes. Cumbo on debut, Dow played, Hugo played, MoJu, Aarts and George played. Dion was first week back from the KO and wasn't right. And the lights got in Grimes' eyes.
All teams have a loss like this throughout the year.

We were strangely stagnant at our around the ground stoppages last year. Downright bizarre to watch sometimes. Maybe it was more than just a personnel issue - maybe it was a set-up and system issue too. Is the same person in charge of stoppages this year? If so - I fear the improvement in this area may not be as significant as hoped - or needed.

"Richmond has now won just one of its last 11 games decided by a kick or less, a dismal record dating back across the last two seasons".

honestly, if we weren't working on this and making it the number 1 focus in the pre-season, then Dimma is being derelict in his duty. There is nothing more important than tidying up the process of closing out a game.

Our biggest issue for me in 2022 and Dimma mentioned it is the same school boy mistakes happen weekly which we didn't rectify and come back to haunt us in that final gifted to many goals , frees etc.

I thought it was Kingsley last year that was our stoppages coach. Not sure who's taken it on this year. Maybe McQualter?

He didn’t stand out in terms of dominating defences, but he always competed hard and was rarely out marked. Still averaged 2 goals a game after coming in mid year. I was pretty impressed watching him
Fair points, mon.

At the end of the day the I trust the match committee to make to right call.

I had a laugh at that writer's/scout's observations, it is obvious what we have been training and it ain't two rucks.
Would you say Miller is pretty close to a lock for the second ruck/forward role?

I think if Lynch doesn't get up for round 1 we may go in with just Jack and Miller as talls given we have a plethora of mediums and smalls we can use down there.

Is there a stat for stoppages in the last 10 minutes of each game?

We definitely came last in this stat

It will.be a huge improvement as we had at times a busted up dusty ,in pieces lambo, a cotch who regularly ran out of steam ,a had it Edwards, now dusty, shai, cotch are 2nd rotation with less mid time but mire energy.

Rather than solely focus on how to finish out close games ( always important)

2022 Swans , Gold Coast and North - should not have been close games we were well in control

The North game is a special case – it was so over thought we did our own heads in

High balls going into the North forward line would see 4 and 5 richmond defenders flying to spoil

We should have wiped the floor with them

The Swans & Gold Coast games , we have clear control of the game and significant leads and got complacent and squandered the lead and lost the games

The Geelong game , sigh , I wouldn't roast them on that, cant win them all , Geelong were a quality side and playing well , we did fantastic to come back hard at them
that mindset was reminiscent of 2017/8 and refreshing to see

Harking back to the time when North were strong and Geelong 2007-2011 they would belt us and never let us in the game, we dont do that often to sides

The Freo draw I cant recall the game specifics , other than we didn’t get a big lead but seem to recall we had control and didn’t capitalise on the score board , so Freo always felt they were in it

Get that bit right and we don’t have to worry about our closing out skills and drills
Very good points , Im no expert however weight of numbers in oppo midfield was a recurring theme in many close losses , how many times , the likes of tout miller , simpkin Et al just get off the leash and run riot with repeat scoring ops . Hopefully we’ve built a bridge

One of the midgets from Brisvegas - Lachie Neal - a case in point in the Elimination Final last year.

I am assuming that as per end of last yr we'll go with 1 ruck & a hybrid that can play fwd as well such as Miller for example?
