Are the fellas now back from community camp? When’s next training
They will have a closed session tomorrow, Thursday, at 9:30am but can still be viewed from outside the ground.

Then they have their advertised 'Open Training Session' this Saturday morning, gates open at 8am should start about 8.30am.

all this work, but yet we still keep losing these practice games/match sims- it is a worry.
You say in jest but in last match sim the Yellow team was 3 points up with 90 seconds to go.
The yellow team was given possession of the ball between half back and wing. They went back, across and then to other wing, it got turned over and ended in KMac's hands with 20 seconds on clock which he duly slotted after the siren to give a win to the reds:rolleyes:

I don't disagree with this but the other thing to add is the brain fade aspect

I am trying to remember the details but I think it was Aarts who played on in the North game very late in the game rather than taking a set shot from 30 metres. Someone did the same in the Suns game i think? Cumbo playing on in the Freo game after marking on the 50 and the siren sounding ( although I would place less blame on him than the others).

We had an amazing stat in 2022 that I am sure has never happened to a club before with so many losses in a year. We had the lead in the 2nd half of every game we played in 2022, all 23 of them !

Personally I see 2022 as a lost opportunity and 2023 as redemption
Yep, we were in every game, can't remember a year that has happened before. Even in our premiership years, there were games that we were totally out of. To add to your stat, we were leading in the last quarter in every game except 2...the Crow and the Dees.

Do you think they will have match sim Saturday at the open session? @caesar

2022 was the year that could have been

so many close losses or lost games that we should have closed up and didnt and would have finished top 2 giving us the proper chance to win the flag.

Just didnt happen

@Jonesracing82 you will find within this article that there is no doubt we are putting a fair bit of work into rectifying our poor close finishes and as @HKTigerB has alluded to have been orchestrating and implementing late in match sim probably with about 90 seconds on the clock.

"Richmond has now won just one of its last 11 games decided by a kick or less, a dismal record dating back across the last two seasons".

it is great to hear & it's something we had to be spending time on.

It seems the Club are looking at it the same way. This was with a few players out along the way & our younger guys all played there part & kept us in games etc. This will pay off going fwd, hopefully from this season onwards.

Much better it happens in training as opposed to in season as it has the last couple of yrs. Gives them the chance to learn from it. Looking at it from the reds POV, they got the ball back & won!

We probably should have won every game bar those 2, especially the Dees game, they'd have smacked us by 10 goals + had they kicked str8 for goal.

Dimma on Bauer that somewhat validates why Jacob hasn't featured in many of my training reports:

"Jacob is a little bit like Jack, he's that undersized key forward who can compete really well. He was very close to playing senior footy last year. He's starting to find his footing. He's a better in-game player than he is a trainer, but we're really impressed by the way he goes about it. He'll hopefully get some opportunity in pre-season games this year".

This surprises me. I watched a number of VFL games last year and while he was ok I never thought he was "very close" to senior selection

He didn’t stand out in terms of dominating defences, but he always competed hard and was rarely out marked. Still averaged 2 goals a game after coming in mid year. I was pretty impressed watching him

Interesting comments from Dimma there about load management. I took a look at our fixtures, and they actually look ok to potentially rest players at different intervals.

Start the season off with as full a squad as we have (injury permitting), The Eagles game in Round 8 probably presents us an opportunity to rest a few (2 5 day breaks either side), then we have the bye in Round 15, then dependent on our results at that point, look to rest (see load manage) once or twice into the run into finals (hopefully we will be in a good position for finals).

So essentially, 1st 7 games, then a break, then 6 games, then a break, then we have the remaining 9 games where we might rest once or twice (we have a trip to Perth to play the Eagles in that time, so could be a perfect time)
