Training For 2023

RFC Injury Report as at 14/02:

Still no mention of 3 week managed? Prestia & Sonsie & 2 week managed? Grimes or Seth Campbell, (will be keen to see which of these participate in Thursday's main training then).

Lynch & Graham still a lot to do to be available for selection round 1.

We'll know more when sqd's are selected for the Norf game next week

@caesar Just a thought here, you have mentioned some close finishes in match sims thus far, have we been splitting the teams up in order to get a tight finish so we can work on that area? Our close finishes in last 2 yrs have been terrible to say the least. 4-9-2 in 18pts or under games for last 2 yrs, 1-7-2 in 6pts or under games.

@Jonesracing82 you will find within this article that there is no doubt we are putting a fair bit of work into rectifying our poor close finishes and as @HKTigerB has alluded to have been orchestrating and implementing late in match sim probably with about 90 seconds on the clock.

"Richmond has now won just one of its last 11 games decided by a kick or less, a dismal record dating back across the last two seasons".

all this work, but yet we still keep losing these practice games/match sims- it is a worry.

Rather than solely focus on how to finish out close games ( always important)

2022 Swans , Gold Coast and North - should not have been close games we were well in control

The North game is a special case – it was so over thought we did our own heads in

High balls going into the North forward line would see 4 and 5 richmond defenders flying to spoil

We should have wiped the floor with them

The Swans & Gold Coast games , we have clear control of the game and significant leads and got complacent and squandered the lead and lost the games

The Geelong game , sigh , I wouldn't roast them on that, cant win them all , Geelong were a quality side and playing well , we did fantastic to come back hard at them
that mindset was reminiscent of 2017/8 and refreshing to see

Harking back to the time when North were strong and Geelong 2007-2011 they would belt us and never let us in the game, we dont do that often to sides

The Freo draw I cant recall the game specifics , other than we didn’t get a big lead but seem to recall we had control and didn’t capitalise on the score board , so Freo always felt they were in it

Get that bit right and we don’t have to worry about our closing out skills and drills

proud of the club that they interrupted pre-season to get the boys out to our flood recovering community up here in the GV.
by all reports the boys were outstanding in connecting with the community - and especially good with the kids.

Alot of troubled souls here, especially at the local high school . Lads were outstanding. My Pies supporting friend said the players were brilliant with her kids at the footy clinic. Encouraged her to join up and quit the filth!
Need some joy here - and it was brought - after worst floods in history and worst lockdowns during COVID (percentage of community)

Always thought our modest midfield was up against it in close games as better mids cut us up.

I was at the GC game. I turned to my mate halfway through the third and said, "We could lose this." We ran out of legs. Far from our best side with no Dusty or Cotch and Lynch out in the first five minutes. Cumbo on debut, Dow played, Hugo played, MoJu, Aarts and George played. Dion was first week back from the KO and wasn't right. And the lights got in Grimes' eyes.

Agree and add putting in effort for all 4 quarters, better management of our backline, no lynch no forward line and add problems in our clearances and our mid depth gone. Got rid of depth And anyone remember the mosquito fleet which got us 3 flags to begin with.

People think tarranto and hopper are our solution but boy oh boy there were more problems than just added them in

I don't disagree with this but the other thing to add is the brain fade aspect

I am trying to remember the details but I think it was Aarts who played on in the North game very late in the game rather than taking a set shot from 30 metres. Someone did the same in the Suns game i think? Cumbo playing on in the Freo game after marking on the 50 and the siren sounding ( although I would place less blame on him than the others).

We had an amazing stat in 2022 that I am sure has never happened to a club before with so many losses in a year. We had the lead in the 2nd half of every game we played in 2022, all 23 of them !

Personally I see 2022 as a lost opportunity and 2023 as redemption
