Training For 2023

Also it mught be a bit of controlling the narrative.
Do we need to know every inch of detail?
Do we want more talk on footy?
More positive optimism to win members?

Not forgetting that in season most players would be dealing with niggles, hampered by issues, or struggling with something.
Clubs would be expect a level of fortitude
Yes please, we all look fwd to caesar's reports!! Thank you caesar, perhaps a medal is in order for services to PRE.

Is this as of right now? Surely the club can be a bit more transparent on what's going on.. there are some pretty key players in that list..

I’ll take Lynch, Grimes and Graham’s management on face value although they’d want to join the main group soon to be available for any part in practice games.
I’m calling BS on Prestia. He’s been injured
My concern is Sonsie. He’s been in rehab for a whilst with no real indication of his condition. He needs a full preseason to build on last year. Doesn’t appear to be happening for him.

if i'm not mistaken, Sonsie has been fully training majority of pre season up until about a week before camp? Hopefully that holds him in good stead for the season, better yet if he is back with the main group in the next few weeks

Sonsie has not been with the main group for about 2 and half weeks the same as Prestia and Sonsie did very little today and at low intensity.

Seems likely that our tight arse approach to fitness and rehab staff will continue to bite us in 2023.

As always Caesar you provide a great connection to the club with your training reports. That is quite a few key players not in full training. Our 2023 season will live and die on the back of keeping our best players available for most of the year.

Ok expanding on above training today:

Prestia worked really hard in rehab at good intensity.
Lynch and Graham at a decent rate and Graham was pin-pointing passes to Lynch when the main group took a break so there was field space for them to do a bit of ball walk. After their little drill Lynch yelled out great kicking Fridge. (I personally think Fridge is one of our best ball deliverers to leading targets and also you can back him in in his own goal kicking).
Grimes A level below the other three but quite a bit of running and a bit of kick to kick.
Sonsie Didn't do a lot and very low intensity.
Banks Saw him but did not even complete warm up and then went inside.
Colina Still walking
Gibcus Good to see he has started to jog straight lines.

Length in Rehab:
Prestia & Sonsie bordering on 3 weeks
Grimes about 10 days
Lynch & Graham since befor and after Christmas.

Match Play :
About 30 minutes Black v White with Black winning 48 to 46?

Nank & Hopper who had done some training did not participate.

Marlion v McIntosh on one wing. Hugo v Ross on the other.

Taranto, Shai and Soldo v

Samson, Dow, and George
Dusty, Cotch and Shorty had stints

*Soldo gave Samson a bit of a bath
*Shai insanely good, (we need two of him, one mid and one forward). I cannot even explain how good he was brought Ryan down in a tackle, deft touches, magical weaving and a couple of goals.
*Dusty awesome.
*Bakes good.
*MJ is our new Chaos, was brilliant ducking and weaving but does have a few clangers but will be scary for the opposition.
*Narkle did show a bit of class.

*Seth come off with some sort of injury but didn't look to be much.

Overall:

Despite the above mentions it was disappointing to see the quality of cattle in rehab add in Hopper and Nank not participating in Match Sim meaning we are constantly not getting a good look at anything near our preferred structures.

That's all folks.

Shouldn't worry too much about Sonz as he'll probably fade in to the guts as the season progresses. Looks like Taz and Hop are the main 2 mids gelled in there every week bar any injuries.

Thanks, any notes on Bradtke? Apparently he is firming for our last spot?

Legend. Optimistic we'll field our best side come Rd 1 tbh. Sure a lot of Nank and Hopper was management. We have two praccy games coming up soon, no need to flog everyone.

How is Riewoldt looking? Similar to 2022 or looking older? If he has a year like 2022 then it's more than good enough.

Grimes, Tarrant, Broad
Vlastuin, Balta, Rioli
McIntosh, Hopper, Pickett
Martin, Riewoldt, Bolton
MRJ, Lynch, Cotchin
Nankervis, Prestia, Taranto
Miller, Baker, Graham, Short

emg/ Soldo, Gibcus, Cumberland (stiff), Ross, Sonsie, (Ralphsmith if there was another spot here)

Based on the above I don't see Castagna getting anywhere near our side again. FWIW I always used to like him, very quick, runs all day, can take a high grab for a player of his size, and generates himself a lot of opportunities, but FMD his skills are so bad and started to look worse and worse as the rest of the side slowed up a bit from the golden years. Ah well, who knows, he may get back.
