Training For 2023

Obviously every case is different and we are yet to know the severity of Gibcus’s injury, plus we are usually ultra conservative with players, but if Grimes was a chance to come back from hamstring surgery within 8 weeks (if we progressed further in finals), then hopefully it will be around the same timeframe for Gibcus 7B8FF536-CCB4-4AC1-9916-C95FA6349C91.jpeg

Whilst it looking pretty bad for Gibcus im hoping its not as bad as it appears and his reaction is because he has not done a hamstring before but if it is as bad as presumed he will most likely be out for 6 months i would think which would mean around Round 18 /19

So basically most of the season and back for finals if we require him

Just on a similar injury but to a more seasoned player Nick Riewoldt back in 2010

St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt will make his much-awaited return from a serious hamstring injury this weekend.

Riewoldt has been named at full forward in St Kilda’s squad for Saturday night’s clash against Brisbane at the Gabba.

The return ends three months on the sidelines for Riewoldt, who underwent surgery in April to repair a torn hamstring tendon, suffered as he reached for a mark in St Kilda’s round three clash against Collingwood at Etihad Stadium.

There was plenty of speculation about when the superstar would again take to the field, with some suggesting he would not be back before the finals.

But an intensive recovery program, including the use of a ''simulated-altitude'' training caravan at Moorabbin, funded by long-time St Kilda benefactor Gerry Ryan, founder of Jayco caravans, sees the forward return almost exactly three months after going under the knife.
While the return will be greeted enthusiastically by Saints fans and his teammates "

Matthew Lloyd tore his in round 3 and didn't play again for the rest of the year and said he needed the whole off-season to get if right as well.
Daniel Kerr tore his in round 4 at the age of 26 and did not play again for the year and said he was never the same again.

Both these were off the bone injuries though so lets hope Josh's isn't that, you think they would already know that if it was?

Lloyd was 28/29 when he did his hamstring. Still managed to average 3 goals per game for the next two seasons after the injury anyway. Kerr was um… how do I put this delicately? Never a model of professionalism.

Gibcus is 19 and odds are in his favor of making a full recovery regardless of the severity.

Firstly we don't know how good or bad it is,
Second,there is 2 months before rd1,
Thirdly the season is over 24 weeks ,so worst case he plays footy round 18 which leaves 6 rounds plus finals.

If its totally off the bone and surgery is required then it could easily take 6 months and for a young player the club will be overly cautious and most likely bring him back with limited game time gradually increasing over a 3-4 week period through the VFL

Rehabilitation

Rehab following surgery takes about 3-6 months or longer before athletes can return to sports. The first six weeks are confined to limited weight-bearing with the use of crutches. Patients may wear a brace to limit the amount of tension on the repaired hamstring tendons.

Following that early phase of rehabilitation, people will gradually increase the range of motion. Significant strengthening will not begin until at least three months postoperatively, and even light jogging activities are typically delayed beyond that
I’d be very surprised if it were that severe that’s almost unheard of <21yo players

No Gibcus news is not great. Means they are probably still deciding on what to do.

Apparently Caesar will be there selling shoulder rides so you should be able to get an amazing view.
Only problem is that he has a 13kg maximum weight limit.
