Training For 2023

Duz getting ready for his Higgo jokes in the huddles....

Dusty telling the story of Norm Smith #3.

Dusty: “So anyway, it’s the middle of the second quarter and Geelong have just kicked their second in a row. Paddy starts getting a bit lippy and is mouthing off at Cotch, Jack, big Lynchy and a few others. He runs past me and briefly made eye contact before quickly looking away. I took it personally.

Next time he’s near by I just stare at him for a while and tap three fingers on my chest”

Taranto: “what did the three fingers mean Dustin?”

Dusty: “I was just telling him I was going to kick three more goals, win premiership number three and my third norm smith”

The group laugh.

Really pumped about Gibcus. He has the tools to be something special.

With such a big tank could definitely see him developing into a Jeremy Cameron type centre half forward who can get higher up the ground and beat his opponent back to goal.

Really hope he’s tried properly forward this year for a good stint.

I’ve got gout atm from too much beer and fish. I wish I had plantar. Seriously though I’ve had both. This is bad but easy enough to treat. Spare a thought for me as Mrs Snags is dragging me limping all around London.
Take care.
Try and nip gout in the bud.
Grog is a causal factor.
Had a neighbour who had gout, he was overweight.
First, he had a walking stick, gradually lost mobility.
They gradually go downhill and don't recover.

Thx tiger. If it messed me up that bad I’d give up the grog. It’s currently very manageable I just need to keep an eye on my intake.

The CHB spot is interesting. To me is looks like a battle between Balta and Gibcus on who gets that spot. I have Tarrant locked at full back.

Then what happens with Miller? Is the first option as that 2nd ruck? Or will they give Soldo another crack? Or could Balta play that role?

Interesting times.

Gut feel is that Miller is better equipped mentally to play that second ruck role.

Seems to be a role that requires some savvy positioning and frequent decision-making. Back or forward? Commit or sag?

How to put this - I don't think Noah is smart enough, ha ha

As for Soldo, if he regains full fitness there'll be some selection headaches.

At this point in time Nank is of course ahead for ruck #1 and is also captain (unless otherwise occurs)

But the season is long and Nank had a string of poor games also in 2022. Soldo could overtake and then there is Ryan.

As you say interesting times

You'd have to go Balta I think as the CHB I think. I really, really don't think he's any good up forward so he has to stay back for mine. He might have had a few decent games as a forward in u18, but it's obviously different at this level.

Gibcus could be a third tall forward, or play back if we have an injury to a tall (I think back 6 should be something like, Tarrant, Balta, Grimes, Vlaustin, Rioli, Broad with Baker and Short rotating through).
Miller should be our 2nd ruck. I don't like Soldo and Nank playing together with the rules the way they are now - unless one of them suddenly improved their athleticism. Miller gives us greater in game flexibility.

Interesting indeed, we,re plum full of key defenders: Grimes, Tarrant, Miller, Gibcus, Balta, Nyuon, Young. Key forwards not so much: Riewoldt, Lynch then Ryan and Bauer. So does one presume Gibcus or Balta play up forward in ‘23?

Thanks Snag.
I used to see my neighbour from my balcony.
He was a heavy drinker, paid the cost.
I am positive he had gout.
He used to waddle from the tram stop, with a walking cane, that looked harmless.
He gradually deteriorated, over time, he could only hobble to and from a taxi.

Are we sure Jack Graham and Tom Lynch don't have gout?
