Training For 2023

If Tarrant misses, Miller might play back. He could take Curnow and Balta on McKay.

Soldo or Samson.
I wouldn't be opposed to Miller having a few games back if it meant we gave Samson a run. Not a fan of Nank and Soldo playing together unless we line up against a side like Melbourne with two genuine ruckmen

Can Grimes/Broad and even Vlastuin at a stretch can go to Curnow? Balta on McKay makes sense.

Not sure we need to go ultra tall down back. Grimes, Balta, Broad, Vlaustin should provide enough versatility against the Blues shouldn't it?

Miller can play and go back if required.

Prefer that look to Biggie or Tylar Young coming in at this stage.

Grimes could definitely do it but I think we look a bit short down back.

Curnow is deceptively big. 194cm and a better runner than Vlastuin. Not a match-up I'd like to see. Miller's tall but he's quick, as are Grimes, Broad and Balta. It'd be tall not but slow.

Young is the other option if we want to keep Miller as second ruck. It's be throwing him to the wolves a little but he was pretty good on Larkey last week. If Grimes, Broad, Vlastuin and Balta are all down there at least he'd have strong support. How we line up against Melbourne will tell more.

The problem with going shorter and saying let's play Grimes on Curnow is who goes to De Koning if they play two rucks.

At that point you're just better off still playing your "best" side and just gotta make sure the midfield does well enough to make the F50 entries garbage, so our defenders' jobs are made easier.

Heard on SEN this morning that Walsh is suddenly training the house down and may get up for round 1 after all.
