Mr Magic said:Too early for accurrate predictions, however, will give you an idea based on best guess at this stage.
Assumptions:
1. GWS have the first 3 picks after trading Mini draft picks to GC and Melb.
2. Viney will go in the 2nd round as a result
3. Daniher will go at pick 10. Possible that we will be calling his name during the F/S bid meeting to ensure they do.
Top 10:
- I suspect GWS will take Whitfield, Grundy and Toumpass with the first 3.
- Melbourne will pick O'Rourke at 4
- Dogs will take 2 of Mayes, Plowman and Menzel
- Port to take Menzel or Kennedy (assuming Mayes gone)
- Brisbane will be looking for an inside mid to replace Black. Guessing Wines but thinking he may drop. Gartlett, Kennedy possibles as is Vlastuin.
- Richmond - Yes I have heard the rumours re Vlastuin and agree he is a logical pick given leadership and contested play (Dimma would love him). Personally I think Wines is overhyped. I can see him slipping down given a lack of leg speed and questionable kicking. Given how high we rate kicking skills I just cant see us taking him if still avaliable. The smokey for our pick I think is Jackson Macrae. Neat left foot, clean, classy and with some pace. I like him more than any of Vlaustin, Wines or Kennedy. Gartlett I doubt we will pick.
Macrae to Richmond.........get it done FJ. 8-

Sintiger said:The bidding for the father-sons is the first thing that happens in the trade period. The pick that melbourne will need to use for Viney will be locked in before any trading for the mini draft happens.
Imo this means that Melbourne will have used one of their earlier picks on Viney and will have to trade the other one if they want to get into the mini draft.
Sounds like draft manipulation to me.theox said:Not if there is a hand shake agreement before the F/S bidding.
In relative terms it will mean Melb would end up getting Hogan for pick 20ish

Any of the 17 other clubs can make a bid for Viney, are they going to have a handshake agreement with all of them. Why wouldn't RFC bid for him? The worst that could happen is that we end up with Jack Viney for pick 9.

Ok . Really ? That sounds far too easy to me but I will take your word for it.tigs2010 said:If we big pick 9 they only have to match with 26. Which is what they are happy to do.

It has no magical properties other than how they acquired it, so I don't get why it is exempted from F/S bidding. If a club nominates Viney in the first 12 picks, Melbourne should have to use 13 to secure him. Makes no sense that they don't. Does anyone know why the AFL has deemed it this way, other than its general incompetence and ability to complicate simple matters?

I know that's what it is. I'm questioning why.Gus said:It's only ever natural picks. That won't change.
