As I mentioned before, I equate rape similar to murder. In real life I am reluctant to grant an alleged rapist bail, so in AFL life I would want them to take a break from the club.

As Evo said though, no idea what he is fighting for. If the players don't want you there, why fight it?

Cause its his career on the line. I reckon the Aints have made a mistake. They can't essentially destroy a guys career if charges haven't been laid.

Troy was recruited with recruiters having full knowledge of a questionable track record. Then this happens.

This did not come out of the blue, this could have been better managed!

I thought you weren't blaming the club.

thats it though, I reckon you have more a chance of playing AFL again than him.

even if he gets off, his priors will mean no one will trust him now at their club (be that right or wrong)

That may be but the club still has a contract and there are laws regarding unfair dismissal.

as I asked before, I thought he was suspended with pay.

club can delist and pay him off.

It would be a fair assumption that he is on a contract that stipulates a regular payment (retainer) and extra payments for matches played and benchmarks achieved. If a player was suspended from pre-season it would affect his ability to be picked for matches. Especially for a new player at a club. Therefore the suspension is adversely affecting his ability to earn the most from his contract. Think this is exactly the reasoning behind the AFLPA getting involved.

Interesting contest between the individuals right to make as much as he can and the possible damage to the employers brand value. While there are conditions, usually dictated by the AFL, about breaches of contract for bringing the game into disrepute, what is the situation regarding ALLEGED actions that would normally breach conditions, if proven.

BTW remember in Fevola's case there was some talk he was on "extra" conditions but then it came out that he was only affected by the normal AFL required conditions. Think this may have been due to a direct influence of the AFLPA not liking different rules outside or above the negotiated enterprise agreement. Be aware of serious tap-dancing around these type of "special" clauses in contracts.

Pic 15 would be lookiung pretty tasty for the saints right about now ::) Will teams ever learn from the mistakes of the Terry Wallace school of drafting ?

They effectively gave away Luke Ball and pick 15 for nothing.

Yep plus there is the affect on his future, if the Aints aren't careful they could face a big lawsuit for loss of future earnings beyond his contract terms.

Which indicates to me that those closest to the club know much more about where this is heading, or else it is really dumb. The chances of it being really dumb with lawyers on board/ employed - about 1%

Allow me to clarify this point. The term “club” can be defined in many different ways. Do I blame the “wider club” – a group that includes supporters and sponsors – no. Do I blame the administration – well that is a different story. Blame may be the wrong term – but I will say 100 per cent that I hold the administration responsible for what happens with the playing list.

That they did, but how could they have managed what Troy did on New Years Eve (whilest interstate) any better SP?

That is what they (club employees) get paid a lot of money to figure out. Results are everything, and this is a shocking result. Therefore they should be held responsible at a variety of levels. Including the example they set by recruiting people with a poor track record. Troy and Cous being the latest in a long line.

Troy stated that he wanted to change his life around and had already demonstrated a desire to do so by his on-field committment in the NT.

The Richmond Football Club is not a house of last resort, or refuge for the desperate. The club’s charter should be to win flags, not act as a house of salvation to those who repent their sins.

NZtiger said:
The club wanted to help facilitate that. The club also took Troy away from his old surroundings, which in theory should help in time.

Gee that worked a treat didn’t it!

NZtiger said:
Getting back to how the club could have handled this better, should they have:

(a) Not drafted him?

YES

NZtiger said:
(b) Kept him on home detention in Melbourne over the break?

MAYBE

NZtiger said:
(c) Had Troy escorted around during his break?

NO

NZtiger said:
I'm not having a go at you SP, I just see things differently.

I appreciate that, and I think you make a massive contribution to the debate on this site. Cheers to you from over the ditch!

Oh please you know very well what club means in this discussion. You're just trolling and lying.

Not neccesarily. The lawyers will have given them advice on the consequences. The St Kilda as the employer may simply have decided the risk of those consquences needed to be taken in order to protect their brand.

Troy's case is this week I think.
Does anyone know how long case will run?

I hope he can overcome this and be good player for us.
Good luck, Troy.
