As Evo said though, no idea what he is fighting for. If the players don't want you there, why fight it?
Spanish Prisoner said:Troy was recruited with recruiters having full knowledge of a questionable track record. Then this happens.
This did not come out of the blue, this could have been better managed!
IanG said:Cause its his career on the line. I reckon the Aints have made a mistake. They can't essentially destroy a guys career if charges haven't been laid.
Tiger74 said:thats it though, I reckon you have more a chance of playing AFL again than him.
even if he gets off, his priors will mean no one will trust him now at their club (be that right or wrong)
IanG said:That may be but the club still has a contract and there are laws regarding unfair dismissal.
Tiger74 said:as I asked before, I thought he was suspended with pay.
club can delist and pay him off.
It would be a fair assumption that he is on a contract that stipulates a regular payment (retainer) and extra payments for matches played and benchmarks achieved. If a player was suspended from pre-season it would affect his ability to be picked for matches. Especially for a new player at a club. Therefore the suspension is adversely affecting his ability to earn the most from his contract. Think this is exactly the reasoning behind the AFLPA getting involved.IanG said:I think he is still being paid.

IanG said:Yep plus there is the affect on his future, if the Aints aren't careful they could face a big lawsuit for loss of future earnings beyond his contract terms.
IanG said:I thought you weren't blaming the club.
NZtiger said:That they did, but how could they have managed what Troy did on New Years Eve (whilest interstate) any better SP?
NZtiger said:Troy stated that he wanted to change his life around and had already demonstrated a desire to do so by his on-field committment in the NT.
NZtiger said:The club wanted to help facilitate that. The club also took Troy away from his old surroundings, which in theory should help in time.
NZtiger said:Getting back to how the club could have handled this better, should they have:
(a) Not drafted him?
NZtiger said:(b) Kept him on home detention in Melbourne over the break?
NZtiger said:(c) Had Troy escorted around during his break?
NZtiger said:I'm not having a go at you SP, I just see things differently.
Spanish Prisoner said:Allow me to clarify this point. The term “club” can be defined in many different ways. Do I blame the “wider club” – a group that includes supporters and sponsors – no. Do I blame the administration – well that is a different story. Blame may be the wrong term – but I will say 100 per cent that I hold the administration responsible for what happens with the playing list.
