A female rider was tragically killed today in New Zealand with two of her children present at the track. The past eight racetrack deaths in Australia & New Zealand have been women. Is this something that requires closer inspection?

Interesting point and you would now think it is a trend. Should at least be examined but can't see what any action would be.

thats a pretty full-on trend l2r2r, especially giving females underrepresentation in the job.

Are you sure its right?

Not 100% sure. Was working off this list.

Caught a snippet of a discussion on SEN on Tuesday, but didn't have time to listen to all of it.

My observations

I cannot recall last death at a metro track ... And in Vic 3 meetings a week out of 10 each week are metro.
So more deaths at country venues.... Women jockeys now ride a pretty high proportion of starters especially outside regional centres.
Tacks in the main aren't as good, horses definitely aren't, trainers are often part timers, many horse are inexperienced... Nearly half of all races are maidens.
So taking all that into account women jockeys are primarily riding in riskiest tracks on less experienced and possibly poorer prepared horses.

I am assuming that every jockey goes through the same training these days and passes all the required tests so at least meet all minimum competencies.

Would like to know if female jockeys come off at different rates to men for the type of race? And are they more seriously injured per fall than males, is so why?

One other factor might be inexperience of the jockey.. These tragic cases often a women juggling family and other job ...so raceriding is not a day in day out job.

so Waller is planning 4 autumn sydney starts for Winx?

assume she starts at $1.50 in each, you get $5 for a buck going all-up.

then you go early all up on a Third Cox Plate at $2.

gives you $10 for her winning 5 runs.

a bit better than sportsbets $4.50 for winning 6 :p

She won't be $1.50 in most of those ET, more like $1.20.

Still those are poison odds.

you get a few vagaries leysy. last campaign, she averaged about $1.50.

blokes will start backing against her on the logic that she has to lose sometime.

she wont. shes 2L faster than any horse on the planet over a mile at WFA, and has the bulk, pace and rider to get out of pretty much any strife.

I'll back her all-up, every start 2017, to cover my tigers to make the 8 bet @ $4.

Anything less than a five-year riding ban for Josh Cartwright is unders. Could have killed Holder.

would have been lively in the jockeys room afterwards.

Imagine him in a dodgem car at the Adelaide Show? You'de be T-Boned onto The Octopus.

A couple of years for attempted murder, and compulsorily change his name to Hoss would be fair.

Cartwright rode the winner at its previous start. His conduct suggests he had the entire bank on it.

I reckon one of those out wide would have won too so he likely achieved his aim.

Id love to see Hoss Cartright and Frankie Dettori in a match race.

Two's company three's a crowd, there'd be a fair bit of crowding if you included D.Oliver in that race easy.
