Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

So proud of this horse, WOW, what a heart stopping finish!

Anyone heard the rumor that BC might have done ligament damage?

Nolen should be down. Deplorable performance and he should get weeks.

poor riding by him, pulled him up at the end. Why???

Would have liked to have seen frankie dettori riding him.

Re: Black Caviar wat a champ!!!

Don't be too hard on Nolan.
First of all he had the outside barrier and wasn't expecting horses challenging him on the outside.
Second, BC has never been punished. The connections always do just enough to win.
Nolan thought he had them covered and with 100 to go he had a length or more on the field. So he did what he always did and what he's been told to do "don't hurt the horse".
To his credit, he got the horse over the line when the unexpected late challenge came.
Track was also a bit heavier than he's raced on before.

2c.

It's a professional sport, doubt that view will attract much support. If she'd been beaten, I wouldn't have opposed a sentence of imprisonment and torture in the Tower of London for the rest of his days.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

So we might have seen the last of both Black Caviar and So You Think. Anyone thinking what I'm thinking? :inlove

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

My chesire grin turned to horror as she came to the finishing line.

Top horse,dud jocky.

BC maybe did it on purpose to get herself a nice holiday and extra carrots.

Clever. ;D

Would have won by a 1/2 length tops if Nolen had ridden her perfectly.

Soul was beaten a length 4th FFS.

Retirement can come fast for mares, once they drop off it can occur quickly.

Hate to say it but Think we might have seen the last of her.

A summary of Soul from the Betfair forum leysy. Better horse than it is given credit for perhaps.

i think your underestimating SOUL Bigtime as a 3y old he was unbeaten up the Flemington straight did lose later at Flem once but his form had tapered off at the time and had feet problems wearing Concussion plates and all shoes i think also ... but going of his Flem runs his 2 for 2 unbeaten on wet tracks and the track tonight did have some give in it which suited him and his problem feet.

Also he has now turned 4 and he could have come on leaps and bounds and don't forget he toweled Buffering at Flemington who BC has met 3 times and never beaten him more then 6.8L while the other two margins were under 3.8L and 2.8L and he also run a nose 2nd up the straight to Hay List in the NEWMARKET G1... so i don't know where you are getting SOUL being 20L behind BC since SOUL has flogged Buffering who is around 3.8L behind BC when she was pushed out in the LIGHTNING G1) at her best pushed out that is a fact! not a guess watch the videos yourself and you will see ...BC was pushed out in the LIGHTNING G1 when beating HL and Buffering and he was only 3.8L behind that is a FACT!!

SOUL could just be a super straight horse and with some give in the ground tonight it really could have suited him and his feet and he is only a 4y old and has heaps of upside ....i think your very underrating SOUL IMO Lets and not trying to get into a argument with you ...but you saying SOUL is 20L behind BC is just simply not right

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good ordinary horse, Soul. Best form on heavy tracks as an early 3yo, unplaced all six runs at Group level since 3rd of 7 in the G2 Caulfield Sprint, two years ago (heavy track). Not much to be said for looking to the credentials of the other runners to explain BC's performance. BC has routinely eaten these types for breakfast.

True but there is some merit in comparing Soul through the Buffering formline.

Maybe, though Buffering was a maiden at the time. You'd go broke backing horses on the strength of one old run. Then again, Sarge got a lot of mileage out of that Brisbane game all those years ago. :p

Black Caviar injury

CHAMPION mare Black Caviar has suffered two muscle tears and severe bruising to her hind quarters in her famous win in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Sunday.

Trainer Peter Moody confirmed Black Caviar had pulled up sore after her narrow win.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

"It'll haunt him and haunt him. It [Hyperno's MV Cup] was my blackest day. And thank God Luke won the race but it didn't look good. It wasn't a maiden up the bush, it was the most-watched race across the world. The eyes of every racing enthusiast and sporting follower saw what was happening and it brought back memories of what I went through that day at Moonee Valley. In Luke's defence, though, there were circumstances that all came together in a matter of seconds. The Ascot 1200 metres has an uphill finish, she was racing below her best and she was out of petrol and looking for a chair to sit down on. And he's leaned over and thought, 'well my old darling I'll ease up here', and she was so exhausted that she came back quicker than he expected. It was catastrophic in 1979 because I lost the race. I lost the money of punters, I brought shame on my reputation that I'd spent a lifetime building up. And sadly for Luke, he'll be harshly judged for a moment's lapse."

"Him" is a "her" se7en...and what an amazing champion of a gal she is. Awesome effort to travel around the world and win that race considering so much was against her. Incredible how she was spent and injured and still lifted in the last few strides when asked. A brilliant effort.

Even though Luke relaxed on her he didn't pull her up. Possibly due to her injury, the difficult conditions, the travel around the world, the massive hype etc she eased off quicker than she otherwise might have. Peter Moodie said he was concerned about how she was running long before the finish, and that's before he knew she was injured. Despite all that she won. Luke knows her well and looks after her. I wouldn't be assuming Frankie would have have done a better job or that she would have pulled up as well.

Congrats to all concerned. Life is too short for Luke to dwell on this ride. Of course he'd be disappointed but some seem to be forgetting they actually won the race.

Black Caviar= Absolute champion racehorse. 22 undefeated starts with heaps of Group 1, and 1 international Group 1, victories. Woohoo!!!!!

She's a great champion, but Saturday night didn't showcase it.

After thinking about it a little, I reckon she should be retired. She has nothing left to prove in Australia and risks tarnishing the carefully-crafted image for the sake of adding a gratuitous exclamation mark to her career. If she's going to continue racing it should be overseas, where the skeptics are. And after Saturday, I'm not sure trainer and jockey are up to the job.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Lukey really copping it, and on one hand I can see why. But I reckon there are 2 very valid reasons why he eased up. First, its been drummed into him throughout that shes royalty, a superstar, the greatest ever etc. There would be a dash of paranoia about looking after her as much as she can. As Moody said to him before her Morphetville win, 'you hit her I'll hit you'. It might sound like a throwaway line, but you don't forget words like that, there is a lot at stake. Second, riding is a lot about feel, going with your hunches, the good jockeys at least. Sometimes a jockey will make a move in a race and not quite know why he's done it, but it might be an semi-conscious response to a subtle change or move in the horse. I reckon Luke might have jerried that she was hurting.

Why didn't he say so immediately after the race? It's as likely she was injured at the finish when suddenly asked to stretch out again as at any other time. Reckon it'll become the official version though - 'the champ raced injured and still won'.

like I said, he may not have been really conscious of it, it was an involuntary or instinctive reaction. Just saying its a possibility. I personally beleive that in life you have to go with your hunches, and sometimes you don't know where those hunches have come from or what they are based on. But you have to go with them.
