Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Fabulist is back at Caulfield tomorrow. Had to laugh at the Herald Sun formguide comment this morning "Money muncher who needs moon and stars to align to be competitive. Can be placed if they do"

Unfortunately probably pretty close to the truth but that won't stop me going to Caulfield full of expectation and hoping that she can somehow conjure up a win. At least will be good odds, around $13 so I think she is a good each way bet. Has drawn beautifully in 3, J Winks to ride (he has a good record on her) and most importantly she is wearing blinkers first time. Hopefully they sharpen her up and she can use the good draw to settle in the front half and if there is sufficient pace in the race she can finish off over the top of them (that is the stars and moon aligning).

May be her last run if she fails to flatter so fingers crossed, then off to the 'G to see the tigers v swans.

Could be a very big day!

Gutted.

Agree fellas, 2 champs both noted for their fighting qualities. Match race would have been a war.

Reckon Northerly could have won the Melb cup the year he won the Caulfield, although probably would have broken him in the process.

Liked this quote from the worlds best racing writer Les Carlyon "He fools you every time he races. He has the body language of a loser and a heart as big as the Nullarbor. He invariably looks to be struggling, a shambles of a horse blundering around on memory while his jockey pumps and blusters. Then he gets going. One instant Northerly looks beaten, the next he looks unbeatable. The closer he gets to the post, the harder he tries. He grinds on. And on. And on. He simply refuses to be beaten."

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Nick Quinn (unsurprisingly) has tweeted that Fabulist is one of his best bets tomorrow.

Good luck to you too Winmad, we don't want much rain either. Would be a nice running double!

Then all up on the Tigers.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good run by Shock Value today for third... at least we get some money back !!!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Another typical frustrating Fabulist run at Caulfield again on Saturday. I was so annoyed after the race I didn't even bother going down to the mounting yard to listen to the litany of excuses - began well enough but just couldn't muster the necessary speed to take the position we wanted in the run. You had to be on the speed at the corner to be a chance. From barrier 3 she was 3 wide the trip sitting back in 10th in a field of 12! Ran on ok to finish 6th but long way from the winner.

Not sure where to now, but if she stays sound we will probably sneak over to Adelaide to try to find a winnable race before she retires to the stud barn.

Left the track immediately after the race and took 1 hour and 20 minutes in heavy traffic to get to the G (about 10kms away!), missed the first quarter but enjoyed the remaining 3 and a very good tiger victory.

Well done Winmad, thought your horse ran a good race, winner was just too good.

Money muncher?

Reckon you should get it to Flemington or even a midweeker at Sandown (weight?).

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Money muncher is probably a polite term jb. Would love to give her a go at Flemington or again at Sandown (the only Melbourne metro track she has won at) but for some reason the trainer won't go there. She also keeps running well enough that her rating doesn't go down, she is still an 80 rated horse and this makes it difficult to run her mid week. She is one of those horses caught between Saturday class and mid week. Not good enough for Saturday's and too high rating for mid week.
Pretty sure it will be off to Adelaide.

Go Tigers

ps Apologies to any motorists exposed to my change in the car routine en route from Caulfield to the 'G on Saturday afternoon - shoudl have just went to the footy and given the races a miss.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Dear Tiger 44

Hope the girl puts her best foot forward tomorrow in Adelaide.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Hello Bernie and fellow racing enthusiasts,

Yes she is in Adelaide tomorrow, back to her usual barrier (14) but given her racing pattern should not be too much a problem. Is fit and well and down in class so has a chance but based on her recent performances would have to seriously question her desire to win. Is off to the breeding barn later this year so this may well be her last run. Wouldn't be going overboard but do think she represents good each way value at around the $5 mark.

Won't be going over, have a reunion at my local club (Vermont) celebrating 30 years since our premiership win in 1982. Hopefully a big weekend if the tigers can start it off on the right note tonight.

Cheers

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Wish you the best with Fabulist...another awful barrier poor girl.
Lets hope she can win over there, will be watching and hoping for you.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Does anyone else like backing horses with Tiger in their name?

I backed a horse called Tiger Pete yesterday on TAB Fixed odds of $10 a win, I put $5 on it so I won $50.

It actually drifted out a little after I backed it and ended up paying $11.90 on the TAB.

Not long after I just missed out on backing another one called herecomesthetiger and it won too! paying $3.70.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Gee should have backed that... Tigers and my Greyhound is Pete !!! How silly am I??
Just waiting for lotto, will get a Lohnro will call it Yellow and Black!! Black horse, and somehow we will get yellow and black colours !!! Can always dream !! Go tiges :)

Close to my favourite, Leyser. Ya thinking of heading over for the Diamond Jubilee?
