Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Hey guy's.

i would like to know about your punters club,

I am a racehorse trainer, from bendigo, and often get great tips from other trainers that i know in melbourne.

Could someone let me know ,if it is possible to join now,or do you start at the start of new season.

cheers

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Reminder that So You Think undertakes his greatest challenge on Monday morning in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, 1:15am Melbourne time. Will need to be at his best to win.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Congratulations to Bigpond TV on their update of the racing channel.

Like the last update they did to the site, just before the autumn carnival 6 months ago, the new site doesn't work properly. Video doesn't work on Safari, although Firefox is fine.

But the real sh!t sandwich they're serving up is that there is no longer a link to race replays. So it looks like I won't get to see tonight's Manikato Stakes program, or much of Epsom day tomorrow.

And now I can't do video form for either.

This is the third update they've made in recent years that is actually a downgrade. At one point it was dysfunctional on a Mac for more than a year.

EDIT:
Bigpond technical support responded with a pre-prepared letter saying that now you can the racing channel is best viewed on Windows Media Player (great) and that you need to subscribe for $50/month if you want to watch replays older than 2 days. You also get access to Best Bets and a few other things.

Hi ttt,

Our Punter's Club usually goes into recess over the summer.

Probably best for Remote Tiger to respond. The club is his baby and he very generously puts the money in each week for us all to have a bet when our turn comes around.

I've had a crack at $6.80. Will run shorter on Superscab. Obviously hope it runs very well.

I can't even find a button to watch a replay TBH, whereabout is it?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

TBH, I agree absolutely and most definitely that BigPond has wrecked our chance of getting racing information, Best Bets is going to change in three weeks, the only way out of this is to register and pay a "tiny" $50 per month to have BigPond, Best Bets, Best Bets selections (hooray!), form comments (hooray, available on Racenet and other sites) and other sundry "benefits" to we race followers. Fifty dollars per month for not really very much at all..........except without handing out that sum we won't get those replays that have been so valuable to me in my tipping for years, no barrier trials either. Racing Victoria wants to increase interest in racing but they will find hoards of people dropping off when they are asked to pay $50 per month. I can't understand this as the more information given to race folk the more chance of punters throwing their money into the pool. I think the whole thing stinks. (Sorry, Rosy).

After not running for a month and facing less suitable conditions than previously, I'm happy to watch. A lot is left to the trainer's judgement in European racing.

You have to laugh though. Last year Workforce wasn't going to run because the track was supposedly too soft; this year he was in doubt because it's too hard. Hopefully O'Brien hasn't gone too easy on SYT.

PUNTERS CLUB

Haven't heard from Bernie so I will step in to the chair to challenge Rosy who was unlucky on the heavily backed Emerald Downs at the Valley last night. I will have $5 each way on Sincero in the Epsom Hcp in Sydney this arvo.

Go Tigers

Good question. On Friday night they seemed to stop putting the replays up after race 2. ATM there are no replays for the rest of Mooney Valley or Randwick, so the webmaster musty have gone home for the NSW long weekend.

In answer to your question, in the Race Schedule panel you can click on the meetings listed to get results, with video only for the first two MV races at present. There's also a link to Form and Results under the top banner, but that still hasn't been updated since Friday either - not even results for Saturday..

No joy for either Rosy or me (again) in the Punters Club. I think Remote is back from his well earned break but if he hasn't posted by later in the week I will look after it agian next week. More to follow,

Go So You Think in hte Arc tonight!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Anyone watching the racing coverage of Longchamp. Think they must have the fox footy cameras in operation with about 4 million camera angles but none on the winning post.

They have two finishing posts, and the 1400 metre post is about 200 metres past the Arc post and hence 200 metres past the camera!

I was confused watching a previous race where a horse was 5 lengths in front 200 metres out with the other jockeys sitting quietly and the odds-on favourite last, yet it got up!

The sprint course is actually along the back straight so it also finishes miles away from the grandstand.

It's frustrating watching Tipperary rather than the build up to the race. There were some nice streams of Ascot this year but I can't find anything from Longchamp.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Should have been ridden forward from the wide barrier: it's 1 km to the first turn and he would have been better up front than smothered up third last. Good run though.

I read somewhere SYT was nominated for Japan. I wonder if they'll keep him going to get the big Group 1 Coolmore wants.

This was the biggie, anything else is a consolation. Stable must've reckoned it'd be suicide to go forward from out wide given their doubts on him getting a strong 2400, but he got the trip alright. Maybe if they'd had a little more faith...

Agree. Not sure they've ridden him terrbily well over there considering his Aust racing style.

Still, 4th is a pretty good effort. Winner smashed them.

In the biggest race of his life you'd think they'd use his abundant gatespeed to advantage.

Horrible tactics. No horse could have won from where he was.

Saying that the winner smashed them, as 3 year olds nearly always do in this race with the ridiculous weight pull they get.

Should have run a clear 2nd though.

Coolmore would still be keen on some prime Asian Group 1 type to put him firmly in the minds of Asian buyers.

Yeah, his stud value can still be enhanced. But there's only one Arc.

Agree with Leysy that SYT couldn't win, the way the race panned out. Would love to see the sectionals. While it's not comparing apples with apples, the time would've smashed the fastest Caulfield Cup ever run by 9-10 lengths.
