The Geelong Cup would have to be cemented as gospel form for the internats now.

What a great edition of the race. The champ ran well, if only he'd settled earlier we could be lauding a legend. Slashing run again by the warhorse Zipping, he just keeps on keeping on. Remarkable after the scare he had under the gates in last year's Mackinnon. But the winner is a great horse. Magnificent looking beasts the first three, it really has become a high quality race. If they opened a book for next year Maluckyday would be a short-priced favourite already. I hope they give SYT another crack, he's not even technically four yet.

Well said.

Got the trifecta, seemed easy money to me.

Maluckyday I have followed closely, your right, keep in mind for next year.

So You Think, again your right, a little better run and we would have been watching greatness. He proved he could run the distance. Barts interview before the race was gold. When quizzed about being able to run the distance, he said he was bred and trained to run the distance. Love the man, wish him all the best in his health.

All credit to the winner though. That Geelong Cup is proving to be a race to take a deep interest in. Great horse, great run, worthy winner.

As for my all time favorite, Zipping. I am sure he has got a heart the size of Phar Lap. Always puts in a great shift.

Great race, it get's better every year. Would love to see So You Think, Maluckyday and Americane go at it again next year. You won't find three better looking horses.

Trifecta for myself also, however had them in the 4 way box with zipping.

Actually kicking myself now I didn't go for the first four also - paid $7450. So rather being happy with the tri all I can think about is dropping a potential $7000.

When he goes, there will be a chasm in national wisdom, dry wit, olde time class and peerless horsemanship that will never be filled. May he stock up on green bananas for a few furlongs yet.

I love him too. He doesn't know how to quit. To think he won on Cup Day in 2005, before SYT or Maluckyday were even foaled, and backed it up with a win on the Stakes Day, to top off six wins on the trot that spring (yeah, I looked it up). Three Melbourne Cup fourths, three Cox Plate placings, an Australian Cup, a Moonee Valley Cup, a Turnbull, a Naturalism and three Sandown Classics. The Richo of the Racetrack: he won't be recognised as one of the all-time greats but a champion nonetheless. I loved the quote from Nick Hall after the race, something about him building to the distance; might see him have another crack next year as a 10-year-old. The way he's running, why not?

Amen. Truly the sport of kings. People blather on about it but the Spring Racing Carnival is a part of our heritage, identity and culture that as Australians and more particularly, as Melburnians, we should cherish. The noble, beautiful beasts awaken our poetic souls and remind us that honour and valor are qualities worth cultivating.

They also encourage some of us to wax like Banjo Paterson. :)

All this and Francesca Cumani. :inlove

Well done Melbourne. :cupgold

PRE Punters Club

Winners elusive on Cup Day

Bernie & Azzamoot tried hard to couple a double together each but alas no luck.

(Rosy will add $50.41 winnings of last Saturday to this Saturday’s winnings and remit to PRE Admin Bank Account on Monday)

This Saturday 6 November 2010, Emirates Day the champion and challenger are -

Champion = B1
Challenger = Tony Braxton-Hicks

B1 & Tony Braxton-Hicks – could you please post or PM me to show that you are ok to be the punters before Saturday?

The rules are simple -

1) Each punting day (usually Saturday) there is a challenger and a champion
2) Both the challenger and the champion have $10 to bet - either win or place or eachway and/or allup.

E.G. Either –
$10 win horse A, or
$10 place horse A, or
$5 win horse A and $5 win horse B, or
$5 win horse A and $5 place horse B, or
$5 place horse A and $5 place horse B, or
$5 eachway horse A, or
For those who wish to dare it is OK to have
$5 win horse A allup a win horse B, and $5 place horse A allup a place horse B, or
$5 win horse A and $5 place horse A allup a place horse B

3) If you collect more than the $10 outlay and more than your opponent on the day you become the champion next week.

4) Selections can be at any Saturday metropolitan meeting in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide. (On weekends where there are Group races on the Monday or Sunday as well as or instead of the Saturday racing the PRE Punter(s) in the chair can forgo the Saturday racing and bet on the Monday or Sunday). Please post your selections on the thoroughbred thread by 11.00am on the day of the races so it gives me time to find them and put them on.

5) All profits on your bet (no matter how small) will be posted to Rosy's bank account to help with the admin costs of PRE

6) All bets are put on Remote Tigers Darwin Bookie IASbet.com hence there is no outlay by other members of the Punting Club.

You took the big punt though mate, ballsy move, had it come off it would've been a nice payday INDEEEEEEEEED.

At least you got a bit back on the cup and the day, all I had on the day was a case of gastro the kids bought home :vomit even slept through the race!!!!

Next year we'll smash it :smash

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Hay List out to $3.65 on Betfair. I can't resist that. I split-screened his Manikato v her Schweppes last night and he wins by two lengths.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Ahh! Looks like definite leaders' bias early. I tried to use a free bet on Playwright but couldn't get the free bet thing to work so missed out.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Wow, Black Caviar, and SO You Think, probably seen two of the best of all time this Spring.

Undoubtedly. Something was not right with Hay List yesterday but I'll concede that even at his top Black Caviar has him covered. She is magnificent. As someone said on 'Offsiders' this morning, get SYT & BC in a paddock together with a little candlelight and soft music... :love

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Watching the hoops all week and the one that impressed me with his professionalism and his riding has been Craig Williams.

He is equal top of the Jockey's Premiership for the Spring Carnival and always seems to have his horses well positioned and balanced in nearly every race I watched. He is a top rider................
