What can you say about the champion So You Think? Many query it over the 3200 I don't. Comes from the right stock to run the distance, if it settles well and the pace is slightly off, which I think it may be it is a big show. I will be cheering it on, love seeing champions perform.

The concerns stem from the female side as none of his dam's other seven winners have won beyond 1600m. Plenty of stamina going back a few generations though, and champions defy convention often enough. If he relaxes in the run, he's probably unbeatable. A big "if" though after the pre-race hoohah at the Cox Plate upset him a bit. Will be going around him at the 5/2 but like you, won't be upset to see him win.

Shoot Out ticks most of the boxes - stout bloodlines, touch of class, form through the right races, consistent. Has the Derby winner's curse of being weighted up to his best and the 17 draw is a slight concern, but I'll be disappointed if he doesn't look the winner at some stage.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Get on Hay List for the Patinack. Owner tells me it's a monty.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Had Descarado on the weekend who ran 2nd to So You Think. Going to give it another shot. At 14's I think thats fantastic and hope the Caufield Cup can pull it off.

Good luck to those punters tomorrow.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Not sure if I'll even study the guide or have a bet on the Cup yet. It's a ripper field and I'd be happy to just enjoy the spectacle as it unfolds.

I'd love Bart to win another one. Would love it to be So You Think because he's such a champion horse. I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if the sly old fox's second runner pops up though.

I'd love Gai to win her first cup. Descarado is pretty appealing and the celebrations would be something to see. Gai is a bit like me with her over the top enthusiasm and sheer joy when a race goes our way. Friends tend to move away from me at the footy and races when I start to get a bit excitable.

I'd be very happy to see a Rawiller quinella.

Don't think he'll quite get there but old Zipping is as honest as the day is long and will give an honest account of himself. It would be awesome if he could salute.

So many chances, so many variables. What are the internationals capable of? Will it rain? Will Bauer be fit? Will there be any vacant barriers seeing they don't have emergencies?

Ah Melbourne Cup day. You've got to love the race that stops the nation. :D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Bauer scratched and no emergencies to take his place.

Im right for tuesday RT. Hoepfully make some ground on Bignige!

If you have a $17.75 earn for the day that would be perfect AZZA ;) ;D

Seriously though fellas bring it home with a bang and lets put some serious coin in the coffers :clap :clap

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Well, I'm sticking with the Sydney form. In Race 1 put the tenner stright out on Our Billy Blue (No 2) and go to the second last, Race 8 No 9, Assertive Billy. Back to the glory days with Billy Barrot!

Seriously, the competition has now dropped off with 4 scratchings at Canberra Race 4. I'm liking my bloke's chances more but it's a Slow 6.

Good luck Azza.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Sorry, it's each way Assertive Billy Race 8 if we are still afloat after the first in Sydney.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Great win by Americain but gee I wanted So You Think to win. He pulled pretty hard at the start and looked pretty unsettled which wouldn't have helped but still ran a great race. Good effort by Maluckyday too. One to watch for next year with a bit more experience and maturity.

Good tipping Blood17. :clap

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Nash said Descarado shortened up and didn't feel right. Apparently he's ok though.

I forgot to mention dear old Zipping. Gee he's honest. History really only remembers the winners but 3 fourth finishes in the Cup, as well as 3 Cox Plate placings, is a pretty handy record. Got $250,000 for his efforts today.

Perhaps the internationals have hit upon a formula of sorts - settle in via a lead-up run in the humble Geelong Cup.
Good formula

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

The Geelong Cup would have to be cemented as gospel form for the internats now.

What a great edition of the race. The champ ran well, if only he'd settled earlier we could be lauding a legend. Slashing run again by the warhorse Zipping, he just keeps on keeping on. Remarkable after the scare he had under the gates in last year's Mackinnon. But the winner is a great horse. Magnificent looking beasts the first three, it really has become a high quality race. If they opened a book for next year Maluckyday would be a short-priced favourite already. I hope they give SYT another crack, he's not even technically four yet.
