Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Yesterday was the first Saturday I took off work since July this year.

I did some gardening in the morning - had a Tea Tree die over the drought period and finally got around to pulling it out (it was great revenge cutting and slicing into that Tea Tree as his brothers and sisters have caused me so much grief on the golf courses over the last three decades)

About 11am I was buggered so I sat down in front of my computer and analysed the form giude on Punters Paradise.

My bets yesterday -

Race 1 - no bet
Race 2 - eachway - Playwright (3rd), O'Reilly's Clock (4th) - Trifecta & Quinella boxed my eachway bets with Lucky Thunder (2nd) - bugger Poised To Win
Race 3 - eachway - Its The One (2nd)
Race 4 - eachway - Dempsy, The Fugative, It'llbefantastic (1st - Fixed Price $41), Golden Jaguer - Trifecta Governance to run 1st, 2nd, 3rd standout with my eachway bets to fill the other placings - Quinella Governance and my 4 eachway bets boxed
Race 5 - eachway - Bank Robber
Race 6 - straight out So You Think - eachway Eagle Falls, All American (1st - Fixed Price $41), Van Costa Hero, Walking Or Dancing - Trifecta & Quinella So You Think standout to run a place with my eachway bets to fill the other places (Got the Quinella - paid $60+ for $1 - missed Gold Salute with the Trifecta)
Race 7 - eachway- Ladies In Luck @ $121 fixed priced (Nash Rawiller cuddled her all the way down the straight look for her next start over a mile and a half)
Race 8 - eachway - The Sportsman, Sterling Prince (1st - Fixed Price - $26), Crossthestart (2nd), Naval Escort (3rd) - Trifecta & Quinella Hume (a lip 4th) to run a place with my eachway bets to fill the other places - Should have taken a boxed Tirfecta with my eachway bets Trifecta paid $8,000+ on my bookie - Got the Quinella (paid $200+ for $1)
Race 9 - straight out - El Mandon - eachway - Itsamonty, Orbit Express, The Wolverine, Silky Smooth, Our Saint (2nd) - Trifecta & Quinella El Mandon to run a place with my eachway bets to fill the other places. Had chosen Sound Journey in the morning when paying $16 but by the time the race started it had tumbled into $6 which is too short for me)

All in all a great day on the punt finshed almost 5 figures in front.

Corey Brown has had a great carnival - Derby, Melbourne Cup, Emirates Mile. As has Kavanagh the trainer whose form is that hot he would train a rocking horse to win at the moment.

Thoroughly enjoy the big Flemington Carnival and Saturday Race days in general - you don't realise how much you miss something until you lose it!

Think I might take my name off the Saturday Roster at the shops for a while as I need the break from my 6 day a week work....cheers RT

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Just on Eagle Falls not sure what Hayes was doing running it in that 1600 metre race. Seems a dead set sprinter at this stage of its career.

A little tip for you guys.

A mate owns O'Reilly's Clock in Race 2.

Give it some serious consideration. Loves to be on the outside and settled, having barrier 10 has made the owners very happy.

Happy Punting. :)

Yeh, good mail Bobby Boy but the monkey on him was too slow to react and he stormed home for fourth at very good odds. Good run. Had him in the exotics and only need him to nab third for a hefty divvie.

p.s. Double D has beena little quiet lately....all good???

If the race was 50 meters more he would have slayed them.

DD is fine mate. Will be back online soon.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

PRE Punters Club

The three bets on Saturday were all around the placings but just couldn't get their nose in front where it counts.

THIS IS THE LAST WEEK - and it is looking more and more like Blood_17 will be crowned PRE Punter Of The Year 2009.

But wait there is one last ditch stand to come from

Champion in the red corner - Rosy
Challenger in the blue corner - Dyer'ere

Can either of these two well known and respected punters grab victory from the jaws of defeat? We will know Saturday................

PRE PUNTER OF THE YEAR 2009

The 2009 rules are -

1) Each Saturday we will have two (2) tipsters - one will be considered the champion the other the challenger.

2) Both the Champion and the Challenger will have $10 each to bet with and are allowed only 1 or 2 horses each Saturday to bet on eg. $10 Win on a horse or $10 Place on a horse or $5 win on 2 horses or $5 place on 2 horses or $5 x $5 on 1 horse;

3) Should your total collect be more than the total collect of your tipster opponent on the day you become the champion and you will be challenged the following Saturday by the next tipster on the list. Should both the Champion and the Challenger not gain a collect the next 2 tipsters on the list will become the champion and challenger for the following Saturday. (with the tipster who is the next in order becoming the champion and the challenger being the tipster next after him/her)

4) Selections can be at any Saturday metropolitan meeting in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide. (On weekends where there are Group races on the Monday or Sunday as well as or instead of the Saturday racing the PRE Punters in the chair can forgo the Saturday racing and bet on the Monday or Sunday). Please post your selections on this thread by 11.00am on the day of the races so it gives me time to find them and put them on.

5) All profits on your $10 bet (no matter how small) will be posted to Rosy's bank account to help with the admin costs of PRE

6) All bets are put on Remote Tigers Darwin Bookie IASbet.com hence there is no outlay by other members of the Punting Club.

7) A total of collects for each member will be maintained by Remote Tiger and the member with the largest total of collects by the last day of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival will be announced the PRE Punter of the year, 2009.

The order of betting for 2009 is -

1. Blood17 - return $101.30 - Club House Leader
2. mk33 - return 0
3. Red Sea Tiger - return $65.30
4. jb03 - return $71.70
5. Tiger44 - Return $47.90
6. Scottyturnerscurse - return 0
7. the claw - return 0
8. Hartbalm - return 0
9. Leysy Days - return $19.50
10. jimbler - return 0
11. Rosy - return $49.57 - Champion
12. Dyer'ere - $10.70- Challenger
13. Remote Tiger - return $52.40

Due to two tipsters betting each weekend (Champion and Challenger) we all should get more than two turns at tipping during the winter footy season and spring racing carnival.

IASbet.com provides for - a Superprice dividend guaranteed to be better than 2 of the three TABs and is generally better than all three or a fixed price or in some races Top Fluctuations. When you put your tips on PRE please advise which of the 3 betting types above you want (Superprice or Fixed Price or Top Fluctuation) Please note if betting for a place Superprice is the only option available. IT MAYBE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOU BECOMING NEXT WEEKS CHAMPION.

If it were a better stable, jb, you'd say it was there to put the heat on the leader and set the race up for the goer. And even though that's exactly the way it worked out it's pretty unlikely the stable had anything to do with it. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Oh and bring on this champion. :help

A trick that runs in the family, perhaps. C.S. had Almurtajaz set a hot pace in the 1988 Derby, which brought the favourite and suspect stayer Big Grey Roo undone and allowed stablemate and plonk horse King's High to capitalise. Left a bit of a stink, that one.

Haha we'll soon know. No point me pussyfooting around with short prices when Blood is sitting so high on his perch so, with no great conviction, I'll go for good odds, great name and favourite jockey.

Sandown Race 3 Horse 6 Jockey Nash...Great Wall of China $5ew on the bet type of your choice please Remote.

I hope BMS finishes his training career in style. :help

Special good luck wishes to Dyer (we'll have to stop meeting like this). I hope everyone else has a good day too.

PRE Punters Club

2009 PRE PUNTER OF THE YEAR

AND THE WINNER IS

Rosy

What a finish to the 2009 PRE PUNTER OF THE YEAR - the bonny mare - recently a grandmother - swooped from the clouds to snatch victory from our tearaway leader Blood_17 who was most gallant in defeat. Third went to Mr. Consistency jb03.

With her last bet Rosy needed to collect more than $52 for her $10 outlay - Rosy had $5 eachway on Great Wall Of China which was ridden to victory by her friend Nash Rawiller to collect $67.75 and take her to the mantle of 2009 PRE PUNTER OF THE YEAR.

$57.75 remitted to Admin account today - Rosy

I have not tallied the total remitted to PRE this year from the PRE Punters Club but it would have to be close to $300 if not more - a very well done to all members and I hope you enjoyed participating.

See you next footy season........RT

In race finishing order -

1. Rosy - return $117.22 - 1st
2. Blood17 - return $101.30 - 2nd
3. jb03 - return $71.70 - 3rd
4. Red Sea Tiger - return $65.30
5. Remote Tiger - return $52.40
6. Tiger44 - Return $47.90
7. Leysy Days - return $19.50
8. Dyer'ere - $10.70
9. mk33 - return 0
10. Scottyturnerscurse - return 0
11. Hartbalm - return 0
12. jimbler - return 0
Pulled Up - the claw - return 0

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Haha a Triple Crown of Annual PRE Tipster titles to someone who knows nothing about racing. Who would have thunk. :hihi

I'm sharing this year's one with Blood though. Although I'd made my decision to back GWOC before I received his tips Blood is the only other person I know of who tipped it to win. It didn't even get in the tips from the H/s and Sport927 tipsters for a place. What a team we make Blood. :clap

Thanks to all who participated and chipped in with comments and good wishes for the other tipsters.

Special thanks to Remote for his greatly appreciated generosity, both financially contributing so much to our site costs, and also for providing such fun and entertainment. I love following our tips each week.

A special mention to the Rawiller boys for getting me over the post so often.

Now if only I could patent and sell my trusty old lucky pin. :devilangel

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Congrats to Rosy (on the granddaughter thing too!) stormed home faster than Kiwi.

Well done Remote on running this - fantastic good consistent effort - just what we need (and want) from our young tigers next season.

Go Tigers.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Tremendous effort by Rosy......Greatwall Of China wasn't fancied by the newspaper or radio tipsters. Great finish to the "season."

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

A short tribute to a top bloke......

Because of the PRE Punters Club I have had the good fortune in meeting via the internet a chap who epitomises all the good in my second greatest sporting love Thoroughbred Horse Racing. Unbeknowns to many he was one of Melbournes leading racing journalists for many years and I have found his knowledge of the industry and its people outstanding.

He led the PRE Punter of the Year 2009 Award for most of the season only to be pipped on the final Saturday's punting. Of course I talk of Blood_17 - a modest good natured man among those who love our sport of kings. Thank you Blood_17 for participating in the PRE Punters Club and you have inspired me with your knowledge.

A few questions if I may

Were you on track the day of the Triple Dead Heat in the Hotham Handicap back in the 1950s?

What was the truth behind the Big Philou Melbourne Cup scratching?

What were the great hoops like Roy Higgins, Harry White, Mick Mallyon, Pat Hyland like as blokes to talk too?

Have you ever interviewed the great Bart Cummings?

And Please

During your life of writing and following the horses which are the best horses in your opinion over the following distances

5 furlongs or 1000 meters
6 furlongs or 1200 meters
7 furlongs or 1400 meters
8 furlongs or 1600 meters
10 furlongs or 2000 meters
Mile and a half or 2400 meters
Two miles or 3200 meters

Thank you again for your internet friendship and your time..........all the very best to you and your wife......cheers RT

Jack Dyer had the good fortune and privilege to work with Blood in his day. ;D

Agree with the sentiments about Blood. Special friendships can be made on the net and I really look forward to Blood's tips, info on horses he's following, and his e-mails no matter how wacky (in the nicest possible way of course).

Btw the latest payment has been credited into the PRE acct so thanks again Remote and everyone who participated in the Punters Club for the year. It was great fun throughout the season and a welcome contribution to PRE's running costs.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I don't wish to start a huge flood of arguments, but Remote asked me to list a few items from my 42 years on newspapers, so I'll give it a go. My "memories" do not include "modern day" gallopers as I retired from the Sportsman in 1989 and haven't attended race meetings since. So here goes!

I was at Flemington to witness the triple dead-heat, one of the most amazing finishes you could have of course. Fighting Force, Pandie Sun and Ark Royal featured in the photo. I remember I tipped Ark Royal in the paper, so had a one-third winner!

As for the truth behind the Big Philou scandal, I truly can't remember the facts, except it set the reporters scurrying in all directions trying to get the gist of it all. In those days we had to phone the stories from the racecourse to the newspaper office.

I did many intervews with Bart Cummings, who was always easy to get along with and just as witty as he is now. Colin Hayes was another top flight trainer who was always available. I'll answer the rest of the questions soon, Remote.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Remote, to answer some more questions.....

The best horses I saw over different distances:

5f. Biscay and Misting, both flew out of the barrier and were rarely headed.

6f. Todman, Manikato, Vain.

7f. Todman, Manikato, Vain, Aquanita.

8f. Not sure, will think a lot more yet.

9f. Tulloch, Kingston Town, Lord.

10f. Lord was certainly one of the best. Tulloch, Kingston Town.

12f: Tulloch, Kingston Town.

2m: Rising Fast, Galilee, Empire Rose (a favourite of mine). Many others though. Tulloch would have won the 1960 Melbourne Cup with 10 stone 1 pound if Neville Sellwood hadn't slaughtered him. His fast-finishing seventh was tremendous after being ridden like a camel.

Best jockeys: Darby Munro, Geoff Lane (better than his rival Roy Higgins), Harry White (on stayers), Bill Williamson, Johnny Miller, Ron Hutchinson....many more. Ron Hall and Ron Lindsay the best over jumps.

Best grey galloper: Gunsynd.
