My husband got in first for Zipped so I'll go with Bart instead.

Awesome effort...onya Bart you Melbourne Cup genius. Good onya Blake Shinn, love the emotion. Couldn't be happier with the result.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

The Aidan O'Brien team treated the Melbourne Cup field with contempt. The trio were very arrogantly ridden and ran accordingly. International jockeys on international horses. Just chanceless. I started laughing with 1000m to go. Certainties to run the trifecta... for last.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Apparently the 3 Irish jockeys have been given a please explain in regard to their tactics.  They'll have a sook about that.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Yeah the leader ran a fantastic first furlong lol.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

what a joke the track is - why is the first 2 days always leader bias - then stakes day the leaders cant win

what a joke

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

well done L2r2r hope you backed Viewed

Agree with Gypsy dont trust an international horse with an international jockey that has never raced here before. Luca Cumani has almost got it worked out.

Good omen bet yetserday at Ascot Race 2, I think no 11 Redford - scratched

Clutching at straws a little, I'm settling for a small each-way speculation on Viewed, who has the stout staying blood of Sir Tristram (Zabeel's dad) on his dam's side, second remove; am banking on this, plus the trained-to-the-minute Cummings polish, to get him into the finish at longish odds.

Well done LTRTR, hope your straws didn't get clutched too tightly! At $40+ a little each way produces a good result. :clap

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

We had a good day.  A few placings that got our money back.  I backed Viewed and my husband had a really good win in the race after the cup to make my TAB acct look a tad healthier than it was in the morning.  Now to check out Oaks day.

Thanks & sorry I wasn't more positive with my endorsement. As much a 'hunch' selection as anything else.

Beautiful race - everything that could possibly go right, did. Had my little bit each way, plus running doubles either side of the Cup with Viewed one-out into the field. A memorable day.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

stick with the greyhounds = easier to win.

Bunner's Club is running consistantly at present.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Congratulations, L2R2R and Rosy. Very good get. I didn't know that Sir Tristram blood was on the dam's side. Very important information. My uncle won a few thousand off him I think. He'd been spruiking it since that demolition in the Brisbane Cup. Very good judges, the both of you. He was a deserving winner. Shinn went early and he was still too good.

Many prominent PRE Thoroughbred Horse Racing thread posters had the good mail it appears. L2R2R intelligently spruiked the winner, and Rosy went for the fail safe technique of Bart in the cup. Leysy backed Bauer, T44 pushed C'est Le Guerre and ol Dyer'ere backed him as well. Earlier in the thread, consensus was almost reached regarding the Europeans. Cumani and Weld are the only blokes whose horses are chances in the race. The rest... put a big *smile*ing line through. Septimus, Honolulu, Alessandro Volta and Vareeves... couldn't even manage a place in the top 10 between them. Maggots. ;D

It was a slightly tenuous link but would've helped counterbalance the lack of stamina of Viewed's sire, Scenic. Andrew Garvey in The Age mentioned that Sir Tristram appears in the charts of 7 of the last 8 Cup winners bred in this part of the world.

Interesting that all the European horses with Australian jockeys finished in front of all those ridden by European jockeys.

Would have liked to see how All The Good ran

Are you training/racing it Bunnerz? I tend to agree what it's easier to win on the dogs.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Niconero. Dual Group 1 WFA winner. 2nd in the the Emirates in 06 behind Divine Madonna. Set for this race. Wet track specialist. Flemington winner etc. etc. I can't imagine how this bloke only has 1kg more than Sea Battle. Should have 6kgs more. Pitched in.

Hopefully those isolated showers and storms forecast for today and tomorrow all hit flemington.

50-1.

Might be well weighted but racing 10 lengths below his best.

Hopefully during the night for you Gypsy, as going tomorrow so dont want to get to wet.
Generally the stakes race throws up some surprises likme Tears I Cry, Valedictum and Sky Cuddle (my fav), this being a pretty open race I would think specking at outsiders may work.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

We had 7mm rain Friday. 45kmh gusts. If they put 20mm on the track yesterday it will be a fast track tomorrow. More 35kmh gusts forecast. The Flemington Plateau is a windtrap.

Of course, they'll put up a dead 4. Then they'll run 1:03 in the first, jogging. And three races later the stewards will upgrade. But never will they use the F word. Fast tracks just don't happen, even when mongrels are running their last 600 in 32.8. By the score.

Good luck, punters and well done, Knighter on your Punters Club form. Keep slotting them.

I'm keen on Vandalo tomorrow. BFT. Third up. And I've taken the 50s Niconero. Baughurst has Rodd up. One of Perry's will get the dough tomorrow.

Jolly did his thing on Oaks day. :phew

A footnote on the Oaks; surprisingly Samantha Miss didn't stay. Fell in by four. IMO she'll school the colt in the autumn if they meet. But maybe you'll have to take a number to do that. Whobegotyou? A fair question. A bastard of a horse. ;D
