The RIP thread

RIP Glenn Frey, not a huge Eagles fan but no doubt he was a significant contributor to popular music.

Goddamn the year has started badly.

there was a list on Facebook the other day, muso's over 65, some big names.

They tend to lead a hard life, even if they aren't addicts, the profession involves late nights in unhealthy environments and not much sleep, not much home cooking. Also spend $$ and time on looking good rather than being healthy, its necessary for the job, the image. eg, cigarettes keep you slim. Also a lot of old musos have organ damage from periods of drug use, even if they've gotten older and wiser and stopped using.

A heap of old Melbourne musos were dying in their late 50s, still are, liver, kidney, pancreas, lung. A mate of mine is a successful muso, for a normal person, he is unhealthy, for a muso, he's pretty healthy

Unfortunately, all true snakey.

RIP Glenn Frey.

Not a big name to everyone but anyone with more than a passing interest in cricket will know the name Andy Ganteaume as probably the answer to the first cricket trivia question you ever heard.
West Indian cricketer who played only one Test innings and made 112. Batting average 112.0.
Depending on who you believe, he was dropped - and never played again - for either batting too slow or having an "anti-establishment attitude" (he was black in an era when West Indian cricket was still dominated by whites).

Was the second oldest living Test cricketer. Passed away aged 95. RIP.

Was just reading about him last weekend. RIP.

American character actor George Kennedy died on Sunday at 91.
I can't believe CNN's website announced it with "Naked Gun actor dies".

Reckon he'd be disappointed if that is what he is best remembered for - not that I think he was bad in it - I haven't even seen it.
But I think he's done much more work of significance (Charade, Cool Hand Luke, Airport).

George was in three 'Naked Gun' movies and was a delight in each of them, he also played Joe Patroni in three of the 'Airport' movies.

The BBC actually announced him as the star in 'Airport 75' which was a stinker and not a pimple of a movie compared to the original starring Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin and Jean Seberg.

I really liked watching George on both the small and big screen, sad to see another favorite icon go.

RIP George

So good in Cool Hand Luke. "You gone too far when you mess with the Man With No Eyes."

I was really shocked when I heard about Martin Crowe. You're right Ian, far far too young.
