The "Richmond Specialists" - present and past

Colin Sylvia, following his blinder against us on Sunday, has cemented himself as a true "Richmond Specialist" - a player who always seems to fire up when playing us.

All sides have certain players who routinely enjoy a day out against them. Back in the 1990s I remember Nathan Bower, a fringe player in and out of the seniors, tear the mighty West Coast apart (and giving champ Peter Matera nightmares!) on several occasions.

So, who are some of the "Richmond Specialists" - present and past - who always seem(ed) to fire up against us Tiges?

They may be the champs of the game, such as an Adam Goodes or a James Hird. But a true "Richmond Specialist" will be one of those players who is generally just ok, often a fringe player, who tends to play their best match of the year against the Tiges.

I'll start with the obvious:

Present: Colin Sylvia (Melb)

Past: Scott Welsh (Adelaide, Western Bulldogs)

Look forward to your thoughts, PREnders!

Hungry it is bleeding obvious so maybe no in the spirit of the thread S. MILNE & E. BETTS

G. Ablett senior
J. Dunstall
Any other full forward from the 1980's/1990's.

Paul Barnard also loved us.

This could end up a 100 page thread. What a strange and horrible phenomenon this is. We usually recruit these guys because we believe that they play as well every other week as they did when they played us.

Kent Kingsley
Jon Rombotis
Jamie Elliot
Mark Neeld
Andrew Tarpey
Ben Marsh
Mark Trewalla
Clay Sampson
Ashley Blurton
Mike Pike
Terry Keays
Lewis Roberts-Reginald-Smythe-Wadsworth-Thompson II
Tom Hawkins + now Trent West
Kingsley Hunter

so many more...

Spot on. Milne will be giving us nightmares for years to come.

How about some from previous eras?

Ok, how about these

Present: David Wodjinski (Geelong)

Past: Ben Graham (Geelong - always looked like a champion against us, yet was a chump against most other teams)

Yep I was thinking Ben Graham.

Ben Holland also played well against us after he left.

Good thread, I like it.

Not that stats will suuport it but it feels like Marc Murphy destroys Richmond every time.

Expect LTRTR to dominate this thread and come out with some cracking stats.

I might be wrong, but I used to think Liam Pickering was a star based on how he played against us.

Heath Scotland, (Carlton) they could roll him out in a wheelchair and he would still rack up 30 possessions against us.

Ablett Snr by a street - he always woke up with the sunshine beaming out his backside when he knew he would be playing us on the G

Dunstall in a close second (still hate the day he kicked 17 on us)

Yep, if you had been in a time machine and emerged to see any of the Richmond Carlton games of the last 4-5 years, and it was the first game you had seen for eons, you would think Scotland would be a top 10 player in the AFL and a possible Brownlow Medallist.
