The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Mike Milhouse Sheeahan said North are taking Hardwick. Surely he doesn't get the big stories wrong?

When? If your talking about his piece in Fridays paper MS went back on that on Saturday.

Does anyone remember the rumor from last yr that Hardwick was going to take over with Bucks as his assistant, but when we won those games towards the end it saved Wallace. If that was in fact true you would think Hardwick would be the man this time

On the radio? Because my copy of the HS doesn't have anything in it about the coaching situation from Sheahan.

What did he say on Sat WT ?

He was backing away from his Hardwick to North claim. Said Hardwick is North's preferred candidate yet Hardwick's preferred club may be Richmond.

Yeah if Geelong let him stay all the better for us if he is announced as our main man. The more experience in the pressure cooker of finals the better.

Disagree. So much work to be done at Richmond. He needs to get cracking straight away. Can't afford to wait until the end of September. The trade period starts a week or two after the GF and that won't give him enough time to get thoroughly involved in the list management process with CC and others.

on the other side of the coin... i'm pretty sure laidley finished the season off at collingwood before joining the roos

Maybe, don't remember. Regardless, the RFC list is the greatest basket case in AFL football and the new coach needs to jump in very quickly.

You're kidding aren't you. All he has to do is log on here to get all the expert advice he needs.

More seriously though, I think any new coach would have a pretty fair idea who could fit their style and who won't.

spot on ridley, i would think as soon as Hinkley is appointed, he'd be here straight after round 22. And i don't think Geelong would want a rival AFL coach in their box during the final series, even if it is Richmond's coach.

What are you going to do? Say he quits the Geelong job before the finals or else? I'd hate to lose our preferred candidate on that. Richardson could be in a similar position. If we pick Hinkley and Geelong want him to stay until the end of the finals then I don't see what we can do.

Too true Gus; and I won't even charge him.

Agree on all counts.

You are right we couldn't do much about it. I just don't think it would happen; Geelong would more than likely want him to leave straight away. They've got enough coaches to cover it for the finals. Port did it to Clarkson and they still won the flag.

On the flip side though, you would think Geelong would not want to lose and integral part of their coaching structure during the most important part of the year. Unfair to expect someone to come in and pick up the slack at that time of the season.

Hardly going to gain any ground breaking secrets that he hasn't already put in his plays list.

What ever happens I will just be glad when the appointment is made and the seasons over.

As someone said to me the other days, "its a sad state when the seasons not even over and your highlight for the year is thinking about the upcoming draft"

(He is a Melbourne support though)

Didn't affect Port in 2004. The vast majority of the coaching work is done come finals; game plans, strategy etc.
