The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Apparently CC was interviewed on radio prior to the Melbourne game on Sunday and said the List of 12 candidates has been cut down to 6 with Rawlings, Hardwick and Hinkley still in the running. The other 3 did not wish to be named.

Rawlings, Hardwick, Hinkley, Cameron, Laidley and Richardson would be my guess as the last remaining 6.

Going by what Scooty has said, Hardwick and Hinkley are doubtful for next round of interviews. Therefore the final 4 might be Rawlings, Cameron, Laidley and Richardson. If its true about Laidley then its definitely a surprise to me.

I don't like the look of that. Richardson's my only hope in that quartet.

If they do appoint Rawlings, he will need a very experienced assistant to support him.

Laidley?
Richardson?
Hinkley?
Cameron?

They may well come up with at least two appointments out of this process, especially as they will have to replace both King and Royal, regardless of whatever else happens.

You would actually think that any combination of these guys will probably come with a lower price tag than Wallace and Royal alone, so there might just be a few bucks left over to entice at least one to sign up as a senior assistant.

I hope Hardwick wasn't poor as Scooty suggests, he's my favourite. Wouldn't mind knowing who was the comical one. :spin

Personally keeping Laidley in this process iss the wrong approach IMO. He can come in as an assistant or some kind or role but head coach? No way!!!!!!! Doubt many Tiger fans would be happy with him either.

Im told Royal's replacement is the same fella who knocked off Homer for employee of the month......Mr Aluminium Rod

While we are on about crap coach's, I may have pointed out how poor I thought Dave Weadon was with his theories re Goal kicking, when I spoke with him a few years back in depth about coaching, anyhow I found it funny(last night on 1) Mooney talking about how Dave Weadon has been working with him and now he has the yips.......

That is funny.

Guys like Wheadon and Royal have managed to get away with coaching at the highest level for a very long time. I guess every time they apply for a job, they come with glowing references.

Was discussing Jade with my mate on the way to the game yesterday.

It occurred to me that perhaps Jade is not really showing us how good he is, it is just he is showing us how bad Wallace was. Jade obviously understands the basic requirements of coaching.

IMO Jade has performed to a level that every professional coach should be able to. Whether he is the right man for the job is another matter. If he gets the job it should be based soley on his presentation to selection panel, not what he has been able to do in the last half of the year.

Simply showing us how bad Wallace was should not be enough to get the job.
Very well said.

So Rawlings has no tatical nous but is good at communication
Junkyard is good with the tactical stuff but can rub fella's up the wrong way
Cameron also good with tactics but might not be able to make the hard decisions
Hardwick will make the tough calls but can't interview or use powerpoint
Richardson very good with development
Hinkley has geelong IP

Just get Hardwick as senior coach (need senior coach to make the tough calls as it is his head on the block if they ain't right)
Junkyard as his senior assistant
Cameron takes backs
Rawlings forwards
Hinkley mids
Richardson at Coburg
Fly to work with Richardson at Coburg and training helping with development

Premiership in 2011 ;D

Answering several posts at once as I trawl through the last few pages of the thread:

sorry ive been away with personal issues but since the first round of interviews have finished there is a bit to take in

Rawlings is fav for the gig in terms of hes results and ability to communicate however the club has fears he is unable to compete tactically with the top guys is unable to quickly adapt to momontem swings.

richerdson impressed with his experience in coaching a flag and his communication skills is almost the whole package

there is strengths and weekness in every applicant am willing to share at this point i would have rawlings as fav with the darkie being cameron however i want hinkley club was upset with twigs peformence on sunday

No offence but why would Rawlings be the fave with his complete lack of tactical nous?

Why would the I want Hinkley club be disappointed in Rawlings performance on Sunday? The team was inept and fell in against an opponent whose coach was tanking. Apoint someone like Cameron and make Rawlings senior assistant, I doubt hew will go anywhere if he doesn't get it.

Excellent news on Neeld and leppitch then as we don't want 'em. Hope they give Hardwick another chance.

Agreed, given he wants some time off it would smack of a Walls type appointment IMHO. Why would Laidley still be in it anyway given he hasn't even been properly interviewed AFAIK.

I really hope Hinkley is still in the running, why would he have dropped off? Hardwick needs to be careful as well lest all coaching appointments pass him by.

What's the go with B.Scott? Sorry if it has been mentioned previously. Did he pull out or get rejected?

'Whispers' on 3AW says last few for North job are Hardwick, Scott, Longmire and Crocker. Starting to think we may end up with Richardson who is the big dark horse and North will get Hardwick (if we reject him as he stated previously he wasn't interested in North but may jump at them if we can't get the Richmond job).

Sounds like Hardwick isn't interested in the Richmond job though, which is ridiculous given how rare jobs are, *smile* him if thats his attitude. Crocler is surely no chance for the job given his poor caretaker job.

I reckon it might be the other way round if what Scooty said is true and his interview wasn't great. He applied for the job and nothing has really changed since then. He already said he wasn't interested in the North job because "it was too hard a task" if I remember correctly? So possibly all it could be is North are going much harder at him then we're now that Buckley is gone and it's changing his mind. Who really knows though... from day 1 I always thought because of the fact Hardwick was such a favourite with most Richmond fans that we wouldn't get him because nothing ever goes to play when it comes to us. Just hope we don't end up with Laidley.

scooty said Hardwick's 'head wasn't in the game' during the interview, sounds like he went in to the interview half hearted. IOW he doesn't really want the job.

Maybe he is just not up to it?!

Or is more interested in the Port job.
