The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Channel 10 says David King has thrown his hat into the North coaching job but not Richmond's.

Shows how much worth (or loyal) these coaches really were to us in the last 5 years.

King is just trying to get out before he is pushed.

King mentioned weeks ago that he has learnt all he can at the RFC and will be gone in 2010.

Rawlings, hardwick or hinkley for mine. depending on what their vision for our future is. i like jades, defensive attitude. a strong defence, and strong defencive pressure is the cornerstone to a successful club i believe.

why do they still have odds on sheeds and matthews, king, campbell, when they arent in the 12 running for the job??

Wouldn't discount Scott too quickly either. Not sure about his coaching but based on background fits the general profile pretty well, multiple premiership player, genuine hardman, played under Lethal, worked under Malthouse, and supposedly well regarded at Collingwood and considered ready by Mick, with Buck coming in would be pretty keen on a senior job elsewhere as he knows he has no chance at the Pies and the waiting list at Brisbane might be a long one.

I wonder how close he'll get?

I wonder, if he doesn't get the senior gig would he be looking at moving to another club as an assistant with Figgy now at the scum?

Wouldn't be too keen on Laidley from what I have heard. A colleague who knows one of the North players well states he can be out there at times. A certain player approached Laidley on one occasion seeking advice on how to play a certain opponent and his advice was "just play marbles," This certain Roo's player said it was not an unusual occurrence, but tactically he is very good, but not for a young developing list is the word.

Was hoping for Bucks. Now its down to probably 6 or 7.
Cameron, Hardwick, Hinkley, Leppitch, Rawlings, Alan Richardson and Scott.
Always loved the way Leon played. Could be an excellent coach with a focus on skill which we definitely need, rate 7/10.
Never liked Hardwick since he combined with Bailey to hold Brad Green, while he was king hit in an Ess Melb was it a grand final, several years back. No thanks.
Hinkley is probably a good support, dont see him in the main job. rate 5/10
Leppitch, like the way he played and the fact that he has been no 2 to Vossy and the success he enjoyed. Could be under rating but 7/10.
Scott, If he coached like he played would bring passion to the table and not much else. 5/10.
Rawlings, has the inside, is well liked but lacks maturity personally and in his coaching, and imo is not yet ready. 6.5/10
Alan Richardson great development coach, tons of experience, could be a big chance 7.1/10.
Wild cards:
Laidley
Knows the caper better than any of the above and has the discipline which has been missing so badly under Wallet. However I have my doubs about his management ability. 7/10.
Knights
Perfect fit for a young developing side but wont be available 8.2/10 but 30/1 against.
RESULT: Alan Richardson nudging Cameron, Leppitch and Rawlings.

Strange analysis

On the Footy Show last night they showed the potential Richmond coaches going for their first interviews. Those they got on camera walking into their interviews were: Hinkley, Hardwick, Rawlings and Richardson. Cameron they said had done his interview earlier. I am pretty sure Hutchy mentioned that Scott was also to be interviewed. Each interview lasted approx. 2 hours. Only Rawlings interview was not as long.

I know last week wasn't a great audition, but what about Matthew Knights' chances?

Favorite son, currently successful with a questionable list...

Anyone got any odds?

Think you have me confused, I was getting early odds before this rumour appears in the media this afternoon.

PS The rumour was also posted on Bomberblitz (by a journo who is a regular poster), and where I am a regular.

You're overlooking Hardwick due to an incident that occurred in a Grand Final when he played? Thank god you have nothing to do with selecting a coach. It's not a popularity contest mate. Very strange indeed.

Complete BS if you ask me though.
