Coaching contenders short-list

WITH Nathan Buckley off the market, the shortlist for the Kangaroos and Richmond coaching jobs has tightened. THE CONTENDERS
Damien Hardwick (Hawthorn)
In the thick of it at both Richmond and the Kangaroos. Was pipped by Matthew Knights for the Essendon job two years back, but would be unlucky not to snare one of the two roles.
Jade Rawlings (Richmond)
Equal favourite with Damien Hardwick at Richmond, but will also be considered by the Kangaroos. Has thrilled the Tigers with his progress in the last six weeks.
Ken Hinkley (Geelong)
Will be interviewed by Richmond in its first round of discussions, and the Kangaroos would be crazy to overlook him. Has strong pedigree and Geelong's intellectual property.
John Longmire (Sydney)
The Roos will surely gauge his interest, but it is not known if he is a contender at Richmond.
He ticks the boxes at North, with his links there strengthening his case.
Leon Cameron (Bulldogs)
Sure to be one of the final contenders at Richmond, with his 84 games in four years at Punt Road doing him no harm
Brad Scott (Collingwood)
Both clubs will look at Scott, one of a number of Pies assistants now aware they have no chance of winning the senior role at Collingwood.
Dean Laidley (Kangaroos)
The former North Melbourne coach will be interviewed by Richmond when he returns from holidays, but it is not known if he is a realistic chance to win the head role.
Darren Crocker (Kangaroos)
The former North forward and current caretaker will be one of the contenders for the Roos role. While the wins have been elusive, he has the Kangaroos up and about.
Alan Richardson (Essendon)
The former Pies development coach is highly rated within the industry, and not just for teaching the young kids. Likely to push hard for the Tigers role.
David King (Richmond)
Has conceded he has run his race at Richmond, but will thrust his name forward to return to the Kangaroos as senior coach.
Other contenders: Mark Neeld (Collingwood), Justin Leppitsch (Brisbane), Anthony Rock (Kangaroos) and Peter Sumich (West Coast) all have appointments to be interviewed by Richmond's selection panel.
