The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Coaching contenders short-list
| July 28, 2009 11:55pm

WITH Nathan Buckley off the market, the shortlist for the Kangaroos and Richmond coaching jobs has tightened. THE CONTENDERS

Damien Hardwick (Hawthorn)

In the thick of it at both Richmond and the Kangaroos. Was pipped by Matthew Knights for the Essendon job two years back, but would be unlucky not to snare one of the two roles.

Jade Rawlings (Richmond)

Equal favourite with Damien Hardwick at Richmond, but will also be considered by the Kangaroos. Has thrilled the Tigers with his progress in the last six weeks.

Ken Hinkley (Geelong)

Will be interviewed by Richmond in its first round of discussions, and the Kangaroos would be crazy to overlook him. Has strong pedigree and Geelong's intellectual property.

John Longmire (Sydney)

The Roos will surely gauge his interest, but it is not known if he is a contender at Richmond.

He ticks the boxes at North, with his links there strengthening his case.

Leon Cameron (Bulldogs)

Sure to be one of the final contenders at Richmond, with his 84 games in four years at Punt Road doing him no harm

Brad Scott (Collingwood)

Both clubs will look at Scott, one of a number of Pies assistants now aware they have no chance of winning the senior role at Collingwood.

Dean Laidley (Kangaroos)

The former North Melbourne coach will be interviewed by Richmond when he returns from holidays, but it is not known if he is a realistic chance to win the head role.

Darren Crocker (Kangaroos)

The former North forward and current caretaker will be one of the contenders for the Roos role. While the wins have been elusive, he has the Kangaroos up and about.

Alan Richardson (Essendon)

The former Pies development coach is highly rated within the industry, and not just for teaching the young kids. Likely to push hard for the Tigers role.

David King (Richmond)

Has conceded he has run his race at Richmond, but will thrust his name forward to return to the Kangaroos as senior coach.

Other contenders: Mark Neeld (Collingwood), Justin Leppitsch (Brisbane), Anthony Rock (Kangaroos) and Peter Sumich (West Coast) all have appointments to be interviewed by Richmond's selection panel.

Richmond's first round of interviews will be conducted by Cameron, football director Tony Free, club psychologist Jeff Bond, basketball legend Lindsay Gaze and Gemba business consultant Ben Crowe.

Jade Rawlings,
Damien Hardwick,
Alan Richardson,
Leon Cameron,
Justin Leppitsch,
Ken Hinkley,
Brad Scott,
Mark Neeld,
Peter Sumich,
Anthony Rock
and Dean Laidley are known to have been asked to take part in interviews.

By my count that's 11... who is the 12th?

Hinkley Please - very very higly regarded at cats. Experienced. If he interview well and appears hungry, he is the one for me.

I received the Tiger Magazine in the mail yesterday and there is what can only be described as a promo article on Jade. Reading this article it is hard to see Hardwick and co having a chance. Jade to get 2 year deal for mine.

Theyre leaving that open just incase one of us internet experts wants to apply for the coaching job. ;)

my only concern is are the people sitting in on the interview process the best available to make the call.

free, cameron, bond, gaze, crowe. have any of these been involved with a successful afl side? do any of these know what it takes to win a flag and what type of person it takes to take you there?

it's all good and proper having a process but the process is only as good as the people who drive it.

So we should have gone through a "process" of choosing whos to be on the "process" before we begin our "process" ?

:hihi

Harry...Emmett Dunn comes in at the second stage, premiership player obviously. Gaze knows what a successful coach is all about, I'm sure but admittedly not from an AFL perspective.

So we need a process to determine the process? :help

Haven't seen Diggler and Laff around for a while. Maybe they've been working feverishly on their powerpoint presentation to support their application as joint coaches :hihi

Miss them about as much as I do having Redford talk about American sports or Missing 33 talk about oil paintings and flower arrangements

Rawlings, hardwick or hinkley for mine. depending on what their vision for our future is. i like jades, defensive attitude. a strong defence, and strong defencive pressure is the cornerstone to a successful club i believe.

why do they still have odds on sheeds and matthews, king, campbell, when they arent in the 12 running for the job??

Channel 10 says David King has thrown his hat into the North coaching job but not Richmond's.

Shows how much worth (or loyal) these coaches really were to us in the last 5 years.
