The I ❤️ Collingwood thread.

The mail was that the Dogs were only willing to offer Tredders what they believed he should deserve now i.e. $600k. So the Skunks to stump up the extra $300k over the next 5 years. Totally fair because it's just the money he's owed from the back-ending he allowed to help them out. It's just what they owe him. Why would the dogs agree to pay it. The clue is also that they managed to keep Dunkley.

Another example is Phillips. The Dawks (and I guessed they would do this) played it very shrewdly. Showed interest; tested CFC out; saw what an overpaid deal he was on, so told them no way. Of course, then slunk back late when he is still on the table and Skunks are real desperate. I think the view is the Dawks took him on that deal over two years, so CFC would be paying half for the next and final year of his contract with them. Or something like that.

Either way, CFC still paying, although did get to dump!

Fair point, the fact that the Doggies kept Dunkley does indicate that they are getting a substantial amount of Treloar's salary from Collingwoood.

I have heard $300K contribution from Collingwood so maybe that is it, with the Doggies paying the other $600K.

If they are also paying Phillips then they have only solved some of the salary cap issues.

It's an ageing list and I think Collingwood simply realise it's not going to take them to the top and needs a refurb. They've traded out players they regard as soft in some way, who also happen to be on large contracts. Reckon it's a cultural purge as much as anything.

Treloar and Phillips have never had any issues and most say they are great fellas. Stephenson has had some issues but never heard he is a bad bloke.
so while culture may be part of it, it would be 99% salary dump, 1% culture

It's not about being bad blokes. Treloar is apparently regarded as "high maintenance". Stephenson has been unable to shake close attention. Phillips gets off the chain when the other mids are firing but crumbles under pressure. The other fella, who knows. Showed ability. Did he make trouble over the Harry O'Brien thing?

Those not seen as meeting the Buckley standard of internal fortitude became disposable. Salary cap issues just made them cheap.

Wouldn't surprise me if part of this salary dump is to have a crack at a few free agents in 2021...

Cripps
Bontempelli
Josh Kelly
Merrett

They will struggle to pick up Cathwaite.
No player manager will risk his client getting reamed half way through a contract.
Knowing Collingwood there could be Martin, Fyfe, Cotchin, Grimes and Higgins as free agents next year and they would chase Higgins anyway.
They have no chance of a free agent unless its a deal 1.5mil over 7 yrs..

I recall, maybe incorrectly, that Pendlebury had a clause in his contract that made him the highest paid, or equal too, player at Collingwood. So if a Grundy gets a better deal, Pendles' pay will increase in line with that. That might be a hidden component of why the Pies find themselves in trouble

Listened to some of Eddie on Triple M this morning and he was the typical spin machine, We have a salary cap blah blah blah, nothing about how they got into this.

I was thinking (and TBR may be able top back up) as to why it seems the salary cap issue is only biting them this hard. I 've heard various things about the CBA allowing for salaries to increase in line with the TPP (which provides protection for the player in that their salary will go up if the cap does, but also provides protection for the club if the cap decreases). I wonder if the Pies have played with this to make it seem like their offers are higher. For example, they could state their contract is worth $800k / year (but have a clause that removes the up / down with the TPP) compared to a $700k / annum contract elsewhere. With an annualised 7% for 5 years, the contract value is the same at $4m assuming the cap always goes up.

This would answer why the Pies have been found out, ie. their TPP will reduce by 10%, but if none of their salaries are coming down, they are immediately over the cap by $1.3m assuming they paid 100% of the cap in 2020. If other clubs included this in their cap, then TPP goes down by 10%, so does every salary and hence no real issue.

It's essentially very similar to the GFC, always assuming things only go up, when that flips and they go down its like a house of cards, it will all come tumbling down.
It would've been easier losing premiership points and a couple of draft picks, then the *smile* they are going through now.
They were basically signing players with no regard of the others on the list.
The decision to renew Elliott, Foreskin and Cox's contracts last summer was a disgraceful list management decision.
The decision to target Mayne and Wells at high prices was very ordinary and the decision to offer Beams 4yrs @ 800k is just a "shut the joint down" decision.
This will have huge ramifications for the next 4-5 years, cleaning up the books.

We have Buckley to thank for that.
Lynch wanted to keep their meeting hush hush but I think Buckley then confirmed they met while Lynch was in Melb to see a specialist in relation to his knee?
Whereas we kept things quiet.

Going by memory though.
Someone can confirm the events.
But according to Geoff Walsh today they never went after Tom Lynch...Collingwood making things up as the go more than the media do.

What *smile* stick came up with that?..
So a 35yr old penderbury could be paid the same as a 26 year star??
This another 'Shut the joint down" decision

They couldn't lie straight in bed at Collingwood.

Full of *smile*.
Collingwood think we are all back in 1991.
When we all relied on the afternoon paper to find out if anything was happening in football.
I reckon they lie to each other, Thats how fked that joint is...

Tommy J Lynch is the happiest person in the country today.
The decisions people make, can make you or destroy you.
Treloar will end up 220 game player to play at 4 clubs with no success and will forgotten about 3 minutes after he retires.
While Tommy J Lynchy will be 300+ game / 4 time premiership hero for the biggest sporting club in the country.
Suck on that ball slappers

Yes and Ed said they called Lynch once and left it at that....

I can only assume they are making this claims now because the fact they were chasing him in 2018 makes the club look more incompetent?

Reading the Collingwood sites - which are currently in meltdown - they are referring to a player they must have academy type dibs on going by the name "reef".

Anyone know who this Reef is and why he is so special??
