The Finals thread

It's Geelong's to lose IMO, they have clearly been the better team over the course of the year and have had far better form in the Finals so far, Geelong beating Collingwood earlier in the year and in the last round would give them a heap of confidence knowing that there game style pretty much chokes Collingwood up.

Collingwood also have a growing list of injuries to key players and are clearly playing players under done, Didak in a massive form slump with a midfield that isn't putting the same pressure on like we have come used to seeing would also be quite a worry for Malthouse and there supporters.

Geelong to win by 2 goals.

One thing is worrying me about backing the cats. The look on Mick's face after they won, I suspect his players would run through walls for him.

Very unscientific analysis, but it is giving me pause

I got relief out of the look on Mick's face.

I think he knew they were lucky. Very lucky.

If Collingwood win, it would be one of the best efforts in history. They are almost gone this year, hanging on a thread.

Looks like the Geelong bandwagon is in full swing here. Good luck to us all!

Good punt that Spook. While we're on the subject would be remiss of leysy to not bring up his punt on the Chimp this year. Anyone think we'll see $9 again in his career. ;D
Damn I missed that one. Was out of the country so can be forgiven.

Amazing you had to bring that one up yourself Leysy. I'd have thought Tigertim would have done the honours the minute the result was confirmed.

FWIW I reckon it meant more, it was about absoultle pride in what his players would do for him. In my mind one of the most powerful moments I'd seen in football for a while.

Of course I may be reading too much into it  ;D

Tim is slacking off. Missed the following one too.

He looked like the bloke in the electric chair when he realized there was a power outage (unfortunately for Mick the power will be out for only 7 more days)

Yeah those images of Micky M after the siren were pretty dramatic TV.

May have already be mentioned but his post match interview with Richo afterwards was poignant.

'I'm getting too old for this' etc. might have had a few potential club CEO's wondering if this was the end of Mick's coaching days.

Yeah well said. It definitely made everyone stop what they were doing here and just stare in disbelief.

I think his coaching days may be done with that comment, thought the same thing when I saw the interview with the great one.

Huge effort by Port Melbourne.

For anyone still doubting the talent that exists in state leagues this team went UNDEFEATED all season.

This with a team that has ZERO AFL listed players coming up against sides choc full of them.

Just think about that for a sec.

Flags are nearly always won by fit inform teams at the top of their game. That is Geelong this year.

Teams not at their best carrying injured or underdone players rarely do. That is Collingwood this year.

rare wise words from Leysy there. so often the reigning premiers are off the pace the following year but everyone expects them to come good when the time is right. with the excepting of the lions in their prime it doesnt happen. the pies started the year well, and carried that form thru most of it, but the cracks have been there for a while now. they have been able to get thru against the weaker teams, but playing geelong they will need to step it up. history suggests it wont happen.

I read it as relief also, but relief after 28 consecutive years of coaching flashed before his eyes with the Franklin goal. Not even McHale coached that long without missing a game. I'm in no doubt the Buckley thing, and to a lesser extent Neeld and Watters, has upset the focus of the club and that Malthouse knows he is at The End.

If anyone at the club is thinking beyond Saturday, they'll get rolled.

Well there you go Bob, all things come to an end. Mick's done.

True. Even a bloke like Dean Galea would provide better insurance than our current policy.
