The Finals thread

Pies are depleted Streaker. No chance against the Cats who will have a GF practice match tomorrow against WC.

Well I just hope you guys are right, but I am not feeling overly optimistic.

Geelong are no certainty against West Coast tomorrow.

And I hate to write off the Pies. They have won two finals in a row now where they have not played very well.

He's been no good all year and tonight made every possible wrong decision he could, his stuff ups cost Hawthorn the game on their own, I don't know about that Shoenmakers either, seen him a few times this year and nothing positive comes with his involvement, should of won and threw it away!

It is very harsh to say one moment cost a side a game, especially in finals, but Schoenmakers dropping that mark near the end, which allowed Collingwood to force a goal through Luke Ball, goes pretty damn close.

Tough one for Lamby tonight. Ended up supporting the Hawks.

Think they lost it at selection Schoenemakers, Guerra and Bateman probably contributed to about 6 or 7 of the Pies goals.

It was all the regulars that stood up for both sides Lewis Mitchell Hodge, Buddy and Cyril for Hawks and Swan, Ball and Cloke for the Pies.

Some real howlers from Hawks in the last to give the game away.

Great steal by the Pies and didn't Mick know it at the end of the game.

Next week will be tough Jolly and Brown are cooked. Do you play Krakour Beams or Davis? Thomas looked awful Shaw and Maxwell looked rusty. Siddebottom looks lost. Reid looks injured.

Will be a great effort if they can get up next week!

BTW thought Hale was very good at times.

Switch channels tomorrow night for the Cats v WC and the Stormers game at AAMI Park. Swan Street will be packed.

Shattered for the hawks, they were the better team by a mile. I so wanted the scum to get beaten.

My god Bateman was putrid. BOG for Collingwood for mine. Every time he touched it, the ball was turned over. Has lost his pace, no awareness and can't kick. Needs to retire for sure.

And that dropped mark from Shoenmakers probably cost them the game with only 3 minutes to go. In the air he was serviceable but when he has the ball it is heart in mouth stuff. Thought I was watching McGuane at times.

Also umpiring was terrible last quarter. They weren't paying holding the ball all night, and all of a sudden in the last quarter there is a different interpretation of the rule.

Couldn't believe Suckling didn't start on the ground and wasn't subbed to replace Bateman.

Yep, apart from Beams, Bateman worst on ground.

Don't worry, the Cats will bury them next week.

Great high pressure game. Geez leysy hates Collingwood.

Some points -

- Rioli is overrated at this point yes no question. But geez he makes things happen when the balls in his vicinity. Needs an injury free run & then look out.
- Collingwood are struggling & only will power & bad Hawthorn set shots let them in it. The Pies havent applied the same pressure to sides for the past 10 weeks as they did the previous years & a half. & it shows.
- Jordan Lewis. What a gun finals series. In a game where everyone was ferocious he was still clearly harder at it than everyone else. You'd love to play alongside him.
- For those bagging Bateman, he has been deplorable like that all year. Is physically on last legs & will retire. Shouldnt have played.
- Luke Ball. Leysy too thought he was gawn. But WTF was Ross Lyon thinking. For those Collingwood haters put there (most of us), just think if he didnt trade Ball. St Kilda win the drawn GF last year - no doubt. Hawthorn also would have beaten them tonight. Ah the world would be a different place. Thanks Ross.
- Jolly - If injured Ottens will smash Wood next week & Geelong are near home in the GF. Lets just hope they win tomorrow & that happens.
- Did Leysy mention he hates Collingwood.

- To add one thing more to that. Clarkson coached his arse off tonight. Him & his assistants gace his team every chance of rolling Collingwood.

Barely noticed him last night.

Hale? 17 possessions tonight and 16 hitouts, Bailey had 8 possies and 15 hitouts, Brown 4 and 5, Jolly 12 and 19.

Best big man on the ground probabl,y but I was impressed by his work in close and clean hands. a player that actually looks better in finals - quite handy that!

Hawks won the hitouts by about 20 with third man up. Osborne looked a very good tap to advantage man.

Lots for Scott to take out of the Hawks approach in this game.

Agree with Leysey on Clarkson's coaching.

Oh OK - He was very good early ended up with about 18 possies. Probably tried too many tricks in the last. Would love a Cyril at tigerland though.

You are a fan of this Toby Greene. If he is anywhere near the level of Lewis. Sign him up. I think Grigg is more a Lewis type.

Similar type in terms of wanting the football, Grigg is my first preference for the simple reason he's the best kick in the draft but I'm convinced he'll be picked up by Adelaide if available. What this match illustrated is desire trumps silky skills when it comes to finals, most of the showponies were made to look second rate tonight and just highlighted the importance of having footballers capable of winning the contested football. I'm not suggesting he'll be a superstar but I reckon he's the type who will do well in the heat of battle, not flashy but neither is Jordan Lewis.

Schoenmakers' game showed just why a backline with McGuane in it would have absolutely no chance of playing prelim finals.

Imagine Lukey under that sort of pressure! He coughs it up with no pressure at all.

I thought exactly that when watching the game.

I placed a few of our players in that game and saw a 100 point belting from either side to us. I saw Cotchin, Martin, Deledio, Riewoldt, Vickery making a name for themselves though.

Barnzy summed it up. To win a flag you need to have guys who make good decisions under pressure, or less guys that make bad decisions under pressure.

I won't name names for fear I am unfairly targetting some players but WE ALL know who they are.

1 and half qts to late, this game may have been lost in the coaches box. what was Clarkson thinking? Bateman was gone 5 minutes into the 3rd, couldnt out run obrien on the wing and then stood flat footed as the ball came out of a pack. his mistakes where the reason Collingwood got back into the game. 20 touches 8 straight back to Collingwood.

If Geelong gets a relatively easy win today, next week will be a white-wash. Half way through the third quarter I was thinking that who ever wins this will have an empty tank next week. Might be the first crappy GF in a few years.

Probably for the same reason he spent 3 years on the rookie list and took 4 years to debut. Everyone knows that he is 1.Perhaps the best kick in the comp and 2. Scared of his own shadow.

Clarkson and the Hawks built a strategy / game plan around a bloke that come the crunch game they had no confidence in naming. Would have been a strange episode in match committee when Leon Cameron debated the selection of the guy most like himself and the group said those players can't play in the biggest games.

Couldn,t believe it last week when Bruest got dropped.Even more surprised this week he didn,t get a recall.

Ditto.

I think it was a great game, so intense I loved every minute of it. What the sport is all about.

Cannot wait till we are there, hopefully it's not too long but we have to be more creative.

That's the level, who of our players could cope?
