The case for a KPP draft pick

We just need to get mids. Stockpile them. Play them on back flanks, play them on wings, play them at half forward. Overload on skill, pace and smart ball use. We are far too one paced and unable to spread and break from a stoppage.

Before tonight I was well and truly on the Butcher band wagon but whats the point of having him if we cant clear from stoppages or win centre clearances to get the ball to him. And more importantly make the right decision when we have the ball. Bring on Trengove or Morabito.

what is it with people they never learn from our mistakes. our first riunder must be at least a very good player who will give us hopefully 10 15 yrs service.best available for gods sake learn from the past. we should have 10 or 11 other picks we can throw at talls if we desire but ffs make sure of the first rounder. we lack quality you find quality early in the nd.make sure we get some quality.

There is no way we will be able to recruit enough quaility KPPs to replace these players in this year's draft and trade, so it would seem to me we should be targetting KPP in the draft for the next couple of years (similar to what Hawthorn did in 04/05) and hope that our midfield stocks are enough or hope we can pull out a good mid from later in the draft such as Collins.

I have been thinking how Hardwick will recruit to build our list. You mentioned how we can trade/draft similar to Hawthorn's rebuild and I have a feeling he may do the same starting with Butcher with our first pick. I believe in building the spine first and then the peripherals as they take longer to develop.

Who are you replying to? Who's not learning from their mistakes?

Agree gpb

I'm a 'best available' person, but I was picking on the basis of need I'd go midfield first anyway.

For the last 4 weeks we have had an average inside 50 differential of negative 25. If that is happening to your midfield you could have Lockett, Carey and Buddy in your forward line and you would still lose.

I think he means that our first pick should not necessarily be spent on a KPP (as per the title of the thread). It should be best available, which in this draft is looking like being an on baller

Serious doubts with Butcher. Has always been the big kid on the park. Shows a little hesitancy at times when others of similar size are in the vicinity. Not saying fear is a factor, just and aversion to really putting in. With a little luck, Melbourne will take Trengrove and Butcher opening the door for us to take Scully.
