Wasn't Swan first in goal or score assists last season yet was roundly bagged on PRE as having little impact on matches compared to others and not as damaging. Can't have it both ways now.

Not by me. Swan is a magnificent player. Should have won the Brownlow last year, was robbed.

edit: PS Swan was 75th in goal assists last year and 43rd in score assists.

Sure those stats are right? Maybe I'm thinking about 2009. Remember reading a HS article that stated he was a clear leader in score involvements or score assists, score something.

Seems unusually low. Out of interest where did Juddy sit by comparison?

Yes of course. He's very difficult to tag so the best way to at least maximise your disadvantage is to have your best player punish going the other way. That doesn't make Judd defensively poor. He is 10th in tackles per game (Murphy not in top 50), 3rd in goal assists per game (Murphy 50th), 2nd in scoring assists (Murphy 11th) 8th in centre bounce clearances (Murphy not in top 50), 5th in contested possession (Murphy 10th), 2nd in first possesion (Murphy 20th).

Out of interest thought I'd compare Judd's position in the above stats last year:

Tackles 27th, Goal Assists 33rd, Scoring Assists 22nd, centre bounce clearances 4th, contested possession 3rd, 1st possession 3rd.

If he could win the Brownlow last year, then he's a shoe in this year as he's kept his clearance and contested possession very much the same but has improved markedly on his tackling and scoring assists. Backs up my feeling that Judd did have a much more creative season this year.

Judd was 22nd for scoring assists (2.0 a game). Swan was just behind (1.9). For goal assists Judd was 33rd (1.1) and Swan (0.9). It is quite an interesting stat as Judd was 3rd for inside 50s in 2010 and Swan was 5th. Seems to indicate they weren't creating chances very well for their temamates bringing the ball into the 50metre arc. This year Swan was 7th for inside 50 and Judd only 19th. Yet Judd increased his scoring assists to 2.8 and goal assists to 1.7 meaning he was much much more efficient this year.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Can't see Judd not getting it.

A better question for mine is who should win the Brownlow.

I reckon Pendlebury is that player.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

I think the AFL MVP has yielded more accurate results than the Brownlow over the years.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

If you want to talk matchwinners, why aren't we mentioning Swan? He's only marginally behind Judd for score/goal assists, 2nd in the league for score involvements, even with Judd for score launches all while getting it 5 times more per game and kicking 18 more goals for the year. He should absolutely *smile* it in. How many games were his efforts clearly a major factor in a Collingwood win? 34 touches, a couple of goals and a couple of assists is almost an average game for him.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Because there's a perception with Swan Disco. Perception is reality sadly. I agree with you FWIW. If Judd played some of the games Swan did people would cream themselves. Although I reckon Pendles was a little bit better than him.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Yeah hard to call I guess. I just love Swan's dominance around stoppages and the fact he hurts teams so much. Pendlebury's right with him though.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Judd won AFL MVP tonight by a mile. The umps might not be the best judges but your colleagues and opponents, in any award, usually know it best.

Judd might not win the Brownlow but he was easily the best player in the league this year.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Well looks like they got it wrong this year. Given the vote difference between Judd and Pendlebury something has gone wrong.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Kane Johnson.....

oh.....you're not talking about the RFC B&F?

???

Agree. 1347 votes to next best Pendlebury's 456 says it all.

Re: Who will win the Brownlow?

Do you really think Judd was that much better than Pendlebury? The votes seem to indicate that he was nearly twice as good. Can't agree with that this year.
