Terrorist attacks in Paris

If that is your view from what you have been told then so be it. No amount of discussion is going to change that it appears.

In my experience and years of knowing lots of muslims and from talking to people who have actually been in the Middle east recently and talked to those who are effected, you are wrong.

Definitely not wrong. I've asked why they think that way and the explanation always ends with a conspiracy against Muslims, orchestrated by the US or the Jews or some other devil.

So whether or not it was a terrorist act depends on the religion of the perpetrators?

That's why the Hoddle Street and Port Arthur shootings were not terrorist acts.

Depends on the cause. Bryant was a sandwich short of a picnic and Knight was just "having a bad day".

Think you will find there are links to IS with this one.

Really ? Was the Sydney Martin Place hostage & shooting linked to IS as well ?

ok whatever.

I'll leave it at that.

I pointed out to L2R that many of the radicalised kids in come from good middle class homes and the first thing thebIS recruiters do is separate thebkids from their parents ideologically.

Of course, as these facts don't fit his opinions he just ignored the post.

Doesn't explain murder. How can rational people be talked into murder?

They can't; these people either are not rational or do not share what we understand to be decent values.

I find it more palatable to believe they suffer from a form of mild insanity, brought on by their religious beliefs. Refer The Satanic Verses.

"A book which was critical of Islam would be difficult to be published now... We're in a difficult place because there's a lot of fear and nervousness around."
- Salman Rushdie, 2012

some people seem hung up on labelling here.

Muslim, Christian, mass murderer, terrorist......doesn't matter who they are they're just *smile*s. Despicable *smile*s.

We're all screwed then, 1.6 billion Muslims all out to get us. Better call Borderforce, they will surely save the day.

Don't think I've alleged they're all predisposed to murder, only a disturbing percentage.

For how long will you deny and make excuses?

The news of his religious past comes as a US intelligence official said Farook had been in contact with known Islamic extremists on social media.
...
ABC News America reports the suspected shooters attempted to destroy their digital footprint.

This needs to be read in the context of released information being watered down to avert a public panic.

Nope. The guy was a nutter. If he had been born in the US he'd be a Christian nutter. A deranged individual.

A kook he may have been, but the fact remains he attended Islamic extremist rallies shortly before the siege. Not Christian extremist rallies.

It's got nothing to do with the cause.

To my mind a terrorist is one who inflicts terror on their targets. I'm pretty sure many of the targets at Port Arthur and Hoddle St would have experienced terror.

This is where we disagree. Charlie hedbo, the Bataclan, 9/11 the same. Denial of Islam"s involvement is fundamentally wrong.

I'll take my lead from guys like hitchens, Dawkins, Harris who have all identified the dangers of Islam.

Plenty of great interviews/debates online between those 3 and various Muslims, Christians and other religious thinkers. none where logic doesn't win out. Islam exposed as clearly the most dangerous of all religions.
