Tennis

Kyrios has a Trumpian narcissism and lack of regard for truth.

in his press conference, he says

'dont get me wrong, Ash winning was great, but we are the main attraction right here. Look at the TV ratings'

so I did

2.8m tuned into Ash Barty,

and 1.7m watched Kyrigos and his mate.

(a great crowd for doubles, although certainly bolstered by Barty viewers, no real need to torture the truth)

Kyrios is an exceedingly easy bloke to get wrong.

or maybe he isn't.

One of the greatest wins of all time by anyone imo.

He was playing a freak, who was playing flawlessly,

He was done, cooked. The entire world had him pensioned off. He served *smile* all night against an incredible returner,

I thought he had long covid for 2 sets. He was sweating like clive palmer in a sauna and missing regulation shots.

And he won????

The perfect tornament; our Tiger Ash wins; Novax at home rubbing ivormectin on his knob, while Rafa confines him to 3rd place in history

Superb
He is a freak. 2 sets down, 3-2 down and 0-40. What price would he have been?

Those stupid computer predictors had Med a 96% chance of winning at one stage.

He's right up there as my favourite ever sportsman.

Is he the toughest sports competitor ever?

He doesn't have the natural ability or grace of Fed nor the athleticism and *smile* streak of Novak but he has outdone them at the majors - amazing.

Yeah nah. You can read it that way but I don't see that he's said anything that isn't true. The Special K's doubles matches have been record viewers for Doubles. It was a different crowd, for their matches, there was more entertainment than your traditional Tennis match.

He was silly to bring Ash into it, but that was a lead up to mentioning Ash's father came to them.

He's not. He's a self-centred *smile*. He will never be involved a match like last nights. He doesn't have the grit. He'll never have the grit.

Methinks this guy needs to turn the mirror on himself if he wants an answer.

Not quite sure what Medvedev did to deserve so much hatred.

Against Kyrgios he rightly pointed out the low IQ of the crowd who booed and shouted during serves.
He rightly went off at the chair umpire for not giving Tsitsipas a coaching violation (which the umpire later did and it's well known that his dad coaches during games).
Sure the crowd was for Nadal but the over the top celebrating after double faults and unforced errors is bad sportsmanship by the crowd.
The crowd behaviour overall was poor - Medvedev wasn't the only player to complain.

Delivering a monologue before taking questions from reporters, Medvedev pledged to only play for himself, family, friends and country in future, sensationally suggesting he would even miss the French Open or Wimbledon to instead compete in Moscow in front of a supportive home crowd.

"I'm not going to explain why exactly, but today during the match I understood that I'm going to play tennis - actually it's funny. I was talking about journalists, but I really like talking to you guys, I think you can see it. That's not really the point. I'm just talking about few moments where the kid stopped dreaming, and today was one of them. I'm not going to really tell why.

"From now on I'm playing for myself, for my family, to provide my family, for people that trust in me, of course for all the Russians because I feel a lot of support there.

"I'm going to say it like this. If there is a tournament on hard courts in Moscow, before Roland Garros or Wimbledon, I'm going to go there even if I miss the Wimbledon or Roland Garros or whatever. The kid stopped dreaming. The kid is going to play for himself. That's it. That's my story. Thanks for listening, guys.

"Now we can go to questions about tennis or anything."

The world No.2 then concluded with a smile that he would not answer any questions relating to his story.

Doesn't he realise Rafa could be playing everyone in the world bar Federer and the crowd would be with Rafa, might be a 50-50 split V Fed. And you have to pay your dues at the top as well before they go all in over you. Losing credibility fast - Rafa, Fed and Djoker won't be winning or around much longer, he had the chance to be the next favourite or one of them, but he'll be dropping behind heaps now, what a tool :cautious:

His manner is the problem, not so much his points. He carries on like a complete twat to officials & has a long history of it.
Funny thing is he seems like an ok/funny guy & he sure can play. With other champs soon to depart it won't take long for him to win crowds over.
Just needs a good mentor & PR agent.

McEnroe was ten times worse yet he didn't cop anything like this. He was actually a fan favorite most of the times. Jimmy Connors, Lleyton Hewitt to name a couple others.

You're going back 40 years ago..Hewitt eventually won crowds over when his attitude changed. So can Medvedev. It's Daniil that needs to look at himself.

You mention the celebrating of the double faults, the one time that happened and Medvedev took a dislike to him was on a break of service game.

Medvedev prefers to believe that they were negatively attacking him for servicing a double fault rather than the far more believable support of Rafa for breaking Medvedevs serve. He's got it all wrong, and constantly seems to think its all about him.

The fact that this isn't the first tournament that this has happened suggests this isn't an Aussie crowd issue. If it affects you at more than 1 tournament, time to look inward and see how you present yourself and how the world perceives you.

Spot on. He appears quite mentally fragile & I reckon Nadal picked the weakness.
Hope he gets some help to make him the player he can be.

like football crowds , we'd cheer like hell if Danger missed a goal , plenty will boo the opposition when they first run out on the ground thats barracking for footy

tennis hasn't grown up with that

The double fault cheer that got under Medvedev's skin was, if I am right, when it gave Rafa the break. I reckon people were cheering the break of serve rather than the double faults.

Not everything is about poor Daniil Boy
