Team v Brisbane.

Don't reckon there will be any changes.

On their forwards I'd go:

Astbury - McStay
Balta - Daniher
Broad - Hipwood
Grimes - Cameron
Mansell - McCarthy
Short / Houli - Can take Coleman

I'm interested what they do with Vlastuin, Reckon we are playing 1 too many defenders but he looked good as a defensive midfielder who floats back and protects the backline.

I know he's not a power forward but Erica Hipwood has 11cm on Broad. That worries me. Even Daniher at 201cm is a tough ask but Balta has a leap. With 2 x 200+cm forwards, it's going to be more important than ever that we ensure dirty ball forward and we have Vlastuin freed up for the intercept. The good news is the dew is setting in up here so that's going to make overhead marking more difficult, let alone under presssure

I hear you but I don't think Hipwood is all that threatening overhead. It's his mobility on a lead - chest mark that's the threat.

no-one really deserves to be dropped,

but I'd go

Out: Naish
In: Chol.
Mabs struggled against Andrews in last year's final without Lynch. The question is will he struggle when Lynch is there. Less likely.
Whether it's CJ or Mabs, if Jack was rested the balance could we be better balanced with the extra fwd/ruck.
That said leaving Jack out could be an error.

IN: CCJ
OUT: Mansell

FB12D. Astbury21N. Balta2D. Grimes
HB35N. Broad1N. Vlastuin15J. Short
C33K. McIntosh4D. Martin45H. Ralphsmith
HF34J. Graham11J. Castagna16J. Aarts
FF17D. Rioli19T. Lynch8J. Riewoldt
R25T. Nankervis26R. Collier-Dawkins7L. Baker
INT50M. Pickett6P. Naish
14B. Houli40C. Coleman-Jones
SUB22J. Caddy

It feels like we have an extra back (so give Mansell a rest after a good run of games). Most of our HF/HB typers are versatile enough to play through the middle.
See if CCJ can stretch their backline and stop them getting on a run when Nank is resting. Also allows Lynch or Riewoldt to push to contests on the wing.
SUB Caddy. If he doesn't get a run can still play on Saturday.

I would bring a extra tall to stretch them we got to make Andrews accountable help Nank in the ruck also.Pickett this week in the ruck not a good idea.

Leave out Jack? Are you day-drinking again, Oldie?

Have to be the only explanation. He’s also the captain with Cotchin out. The idea of leaving Mansell out and bringing CCJ in has merit. Nothing against Mansell, he’s been good, but as said he’s kind of an extra small defender, and the inclusion of CCJ would give Nank a chop out and stretch their defence.

Nankervis has been doing a power of work in the ruck He's been incredible but I'm not convinced over the long haul of a season that it's sustainable the work rate he has.
I also don't like flicking Balta all over the place for his development.
Also whilst having some impact, Riewoldt has had 10 possessions & 3 marks in the past two weeks. He's not exactly killing it & much is falling on Lynch. A rest could freshen him up.
I just think playing a forward who can genuinely relief ruck is something worth considering & Mabs & CJ's form is there.

Resting players is for those clubs who cant manage their players between games. I.e. time on the track, recovery etc.

I don't see any reason why Jack needs a rest.

There's nothing to suggest he's playing injured or tired. Has he or the club said anything? He's a hardened, seasoned professional who knows how to deal with short breaks and has the utmost care and diligence in his preparation. And he has a bye coming up.

We'd be infinitely worse off with him out of the side. Why rest him?

the club could have a million bucks on Lions by over 100

and buy Collingwood?

people dont seem to be getting that Mansell

1. hasn't been beaten by his opponent his entire AFL career, and

2. has released bakes.

why, oh why, must we got through this slow process of realisation with every new critically important player?

He actually said he was feeling as good as ever last night on 360. And whilst his own output/stats were not great he felt he was still contributing his part (as you suggested). he seemed in a good frame of mind and bullish about playing on.

As someone suggested it would be silly to rest him when we have a bye coming up and he cannot be replaced by anyone currently on our list. he has to play if we want a genuine shot at winning.

If we want another tall in I think Hugo is the one to make way. Mansell has had one poor game and he was basically bashed senseless most of it. Baker has been released to do more damage.

Would we be worse off if Jack is rested? Yes we'd miss his leadership but until an alternative is tried we won't really know. We might well be better off.
As I said his form has tapered & his impact (whilst fantastic on occasions) is lessening.

There are players in form who are banging the door down & need opportunities.
Jack won't be around forever. We need to bring players through..

Hipwood has been Broads *smile* of recent years, another reason why I was bemused he didnt play in the QF debacle last year

Erics taller but he doesnt play as a power forward.
