Tambling (merged)

Nice to see him winning a couple of clearances a game at the end of the year too. How many clearances did Foley average L2R2R if you don't mind checking?

Cheers mate. Is it fair to assume 4 is close the most for Richmond and pretty good overall? I seem to remember that the leaders were up around 6 per game (Judd, Mitchell etc) before pro-stats started making you pay for their stats. My memory isn't that great though so I could be completely wrong.

4 (88 from 22 games).

He was leading the league at one stage wasn't he or was that stoppages? :-\
Must have dropped a fair way towards the end.

The Pro-Stats figures differ slightly from Champion Data's (which I don't have) but should be similar. Foley's numbers were
3 1 3 0 2 5 3 4 4 3 6 6 7 7 2 4 1 9 10 3 3 2

Shows that Tuck really is underrated because you don't get on the list without making a serious contribution to your team as evidenced by the other names on the list and it's the same year in year out. In what most people would say was a down year for him that's a great effort.

That makes Tambling's last 5 games doubly encouraging IMO. He's getting the 5th most clearances per game on the team while still having limited fitness and still spending considerable time in the forward line. Can we send Izzy Mandelbaum to oversee his preseason? Because when he gets his fitness approaching the levels of the guys you see on the clearances leaderboard he might just end up on it himself. If that happens we have the beginning of a decent midfield, particularly if Deledio can spend more time there next year and Coughlan can make a contribution.

How many games would Carlton have won if Stevens didn't get injured do you think?

I think the stat the commentators kept referring to as clearances was actually centre bounce clearances. Still, Foley would be close to the top 20 with 4.1 and would also be close to the youngest player on the list. He probably spent the most time on the bench out of the top 20 also.

Foley was #1 for centre clearances towards the end of the year... not sure if he finished #1 tho, had quietish last 3 games.

Edit - fixed quotes.

His stats indicate that Terry changes his role in the last 5 games, gave him more time in the midfield.

I have faith that Tambling will get a lot of clearances in his career, he has the skills to be very good in traffic. I share your optimism that we are beginning to have the pieces in place for a solid midfield. The fact we starting winning clearances in the last part of the year despite getting beaten in the ruck was very heartening.

And that's how I wanted to use my 500th post, talking up Bling.

For people continually bagging Tambling, I came across an interesting comparison with R.Griffen.

Player MT K H D Avg M Avg HO Avg T Avg FF FA G Avg B SC Rat Avg

Richard Tambling 53 409 226 635 12 226 4.3 9 0.2 122 2.3 36 19 40 0.8 32 272 3105 58.6

Ryan Griffen 51 413 364 777 15.2 173 3.4 7 0.1 137 2.7 34 47 16 0.3 20 116 3050 59.8

Bumping this because of gpb's new avatar.

Pretty boy, what did you make of Tambling's finish to last year?

Re Richard Tambling, he came to us in the 2004 draft, has done some good work than nothing much. at the time I thought, what a good young player, still think he is, needed a good ruck and some good players to help him
but now he may play as we wanted him to at the start, could be a stand out season, why I think he may have grown up a lot, and now maybe is his own man, could be still the best of the best.

Tend to agree...after watching our last cpl of games on replay i thought Richie was playing with a lot more confidence...taking guys on - playing with instincts. I too think that this year could be the making of him and i also agree that if he fulfills his potential could be the best of the lot.....has it all just needs to use it now.

he might starting earning his games in 08 finally

no more easy hff roles where he plays when he wants because their will be other options ready to go should he not be up to standard

run Richie run!!! Don't run around in circles and into trouble, grab the ball and run stright towards goal!!!!

Tambling's football has consistently improved in each of his seasons at Tigerland.

2005 - 12 gms - 111 disps - 9 gls 4
2006 - 21 gms - 252 disps - 14 gls 19
2007 - 20 gms - 272 disps - 19 gls 9

He's done very well, so far.

"Touch wood", hoping he can take it to a new level in 2008.
Would guess, > 300 disps + > 20 gls.

I would really love Tambo to come out this year and dominate or at least play good consistant footy and Buddy Franklin to go horribly missing. Actually, would just love Buddy to go missing. :)

I would love to see him double his tackle count this year. Has incredible closing speed yet still needs to improve on how he goes in "for the kill" in order to force an error or gain a free. Can do it but if able to do so more consistently will take his game to another level.
