Tambling (merged)

Gus I think Wells is an exciting player but very much bodering on overated,an why is everthing that go's wrong for the Roos is a genuine excuse i,e Wells but for RT its not

Out of interest, have a look at the stats for the best players from this years theoretical NT state side (from their 20 year old seasons).

McLeod - 10.2 touches, 1.6 marks, 1.2 tackles, 19 games
P Burgoyne - 11.4, 2, 1.3, 10
S. Burgoyne - 11.2, 3, 2.6, 25
X Clarke - 10.8, 3.2, 2.8, 19
R Clarke - 8.6, 2.8, 1.6, 5
Aaron Davey - 9.5, 1.1, 1.6, 19
Whelan - 13.3, 3, 2.3, 16
Alwyn Davey - didn't play an AFL game until he was 23
Brennan - 9.4, 3.2, 0.8, 5
D Motlop - 12.3, 4.1, 2.7, 15
Stokes - didn't play 'til he was 21, in that season - 13.0, 5.7, 2.6, 9
Hentschel - 10.5, 3.5, 0.7, 18 as a 21 year old
Tambling - 13.4, 4.5, 2.6, 18

Wells was a bit ahead of Tambling in his 20 year old year - 17.9, 3.9, 2.0, 22, but he didn't play most of his football in Darwin prior to being drafted.

wells taught richie a lesson when we played the kangas, 1st half in particular

boundary throw in near kangas goal wells swoops on the footy and kicks an easy goal, richie caught ball watching

boundary throw in on the wing wells easily runs away with the footy because richie had no touch at all

of course wells is 2 years ahead so you'd expect him to do that but it just shows how the basics are still missing in richie's game

im not concerned with stats but more so workrate and running both ways which is why richie still has a long way to go

Funny watching the Roos game the other day got me thinking. Many people screamed blue murder over the Johnson deal claiming it cost us Wells. Well started thinking some of those same people are now into Tambling, but where do you rate Wells in relation to Tambling.

I reckon Ritchie is starting to shape as a more rounded player than Wells.

Any thoughts.

I've said for a while now that Tambling reminds me a lot of Wells who only only just started to mature last year. If Tambling is 2 years behind him we need to give him a couple of years yet.

How hard a player can work relates directly to their fitness, which is quite obviously effected by where players play their junior football. You may think stats are irrelevant but I find it hard to believe the players I listed all had tremendous workrates while compiling their decidedly average numbers.

Don't you think it's a little unrealistic to expect a player to have the workrate of a seasoned player when they obviously haven't yet got the fitness base justice?

Same here.

How does the saying go again, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog. ;D

Wheres Joel? Given the need for some size in the team, I thought he would earn a spot

I'm more concerned with the ability to make position and find the ball and skill level, which Tambling obviously has. Workrate, which often relates back to fitness, will come with seasoning. The only issue I would have is with desire or commitment. Only the club really knows where Tambling sits in that regard.

A good game tonight by Bling, ticked most of the boxes, is performing far better lately compared to his horror he'd displayed earlier this year.

Thought he played a good game. Did some hard stuff, attacked the ball, was not afraid to get belted.

Good work Bling :clap

Blings getting better with each game he plays. He might might just turn out to be the player everybody hoped he'd be!

Carn't wait to see him next year!

This is the bit that pleases me T74. Good to hear he has been prepared to put his body on the line. Never been one to believe those who claimed he is afraid of the contact.

One thing he hasnt adjusted to is the bounce of the ball. How many times has he ran over the ball?

Definitely has an aversion to tackling ATM.

Isn't he amongst our leading tacklers this year?

He's 8th on averages with a total of 47 tackles, though 14 of those came in rounds 2 & 3. There were a couple of times tonight where, if he'd run like we know he's capable of, he could've caught the kicker or at least applied some meaningful pressure. To me it appeared to be a conscious decision not to tackle.

Will wait and see what next season brings.

well done Bling :clap...you haven't flinched an eyelid the past few weeks...keep it up...you will be a star in 2 years
