He's a bloody politician. Just like Howard.

Yep he's a politician and I don't have much time for any of them but from what I've seen I don't think Rudd is much like Howard.

As usual Howard is bragging again. It sure impressed Bush though.

Good to see Paul Keating back in the spotlight.Always enjoyed his one liners & still as sharp as ever.

Those of you who loathe Howard can thank Keating for delivering Howard his election wins. The voting public can't stand a smart ar@e.

Exactly.

All Howard has to do is bring up who allowed Sheikh Hilali to stay here and grant him citizenship......as that topic shut Keating up last time! 8)

Do you think we will see the newly reinstated ministerial conduct code applied in these cases?

Liberal senator dragged into Burke scandal

March 7, 2007 - 9:30AM

Within days of disgraced West Australian lobbyists Brian Burke and Julian Grill doctoring a state parliamentary report to favour their client Precious Metals Australia (PMA), Liberal Senator Ross Lightfoot bought share options in the company that later soared $50,000 in value.

At the time, Senator Lightfoot was acting deputy president of the Senate and for two days used parliamentary privilege to attack Swiss mining group Xstrata's treatment of PMA, soon after he had bought 1 million PMA options, The Australian Financial Review reported today.

The paper said it was told last night by the West Australian senator that he had made incorrect financial declarations to the Senate about his share trades and that he sold the options soon after his speeches to the Senate.

The paper quoted Senator Lightfoot as saying: "I could have made $800,000 on those options. It was one of those magic things, you could see it was the dawn of something enormous."

But the paper said share records provided by Senator Lightfoot show he continued to buy more PMA options in early 2005 and did not sell out until April 26, four days after PMA announced a financial settlement with Xstrata.

The paper said Senator Lightfoot denied having spoken to Mr Burke, the former West Australian Premier, or Mr Grill or his former Liberal Party colleague Noel Crichton-Browne, before buying the options in November 2004 or accusing Xstrata of "commercial banditry" in the Senate on December 2.

Last week, Federal Treasurer Peter Costello declared that anyone who had dealings with Mr Burke was "morally and politically compromised".

At the weekend, Prime Minister John Howard forced the resignation of human services minister Ian Campbell after revelations that he had a 15-minute meeting with Mr Burke.

The paper said Senator Lightfoot told it last night that he spoke to Mr Grill "fairly regularly", but never discussed business with him.

Laming not commenting on investigation
Embattled Queensland Liberal MP Andrew Laming says he is cooperating with an investigation into his electoral printing allowance.

Police last week raided the office of the Federal Member for Bowman as part of inquiries that also included fellow Liberals Gary Hardgrave and Ross Vasta.

All three have denied any wrongdoing.

Mr Laming had been expected to make a public statement today, but now says he will not comment because it is an operational police matter.

Griffith University academic Professor Pat Weller says there are many variables to consider in an election year.

"If there are charges, if he intends to fight them, then there's a case of saying he could actually retain his seat in Parliament," he said.

"However the speed with which court cases go on, that's likely to be hanging over him at the next election so I suspect his party would not be too keen on running a marginal campaign for somebody with that sort of thing hanging over him."

Move along people....nothing to see here.... :police:

:hihi

Anyways, don't know why all you ALP voters are getting all excited about this "Printgate" saga for.

These blokes are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like our buddy Hicksy....right? ;D

And hows little Ruddy going....has he come clean about his dealings with Burke, or does he still not recall anything?

It was inevitable ross Lightfoot would pop up when matters concerning questionable antics in WA. The man is a nasty piece of work, possibly the nastiest in Aus politics in my opinion, and crooked as a dogs hind leg
