Dutton in hiding again. He does that whenever he says or does something that receives a backlash big enough that his puppet masters, News Corp, feel they need to give him a gentle slap. FMD. Pretty sure we've been there before. Work your arse off to achieve and obtain something for the future of your kids n grand kids. Pay your taxes all the way through, then have the government take another half of it back after you've died as well. You can stick that fair up your arse as an idea.

We all know that the inequality of wealth is far greater than the inequality in income. So, let's sustain it over generations.
How about we do this:
- exclude the family home (limit of 1 dwelling).
- make it a progressive inheritance tax for any estate over the value of, say $1 million, remembering that this does not include the family home.
How is this a problem?
The only way to stop inequality getting worse and the inexorable slide towards gilded age levels of inequality is to actually take some action. An inheritance tax is a small start.

The tax benefits for the wealthy are ridiculous. I've seen people sell businesses, make $5M and pay no tax. After enjoying the benefits of paying $100,000 a year into super (their own fund) and saving $15,000 a year ion company tax. And said superfund then pays no tax once that person retires. But it also generates refunds of franking credits becuase it has shares in its portfolio. All legal. And not accessible to the punter on the average wage.
They have made some changes to this but it's in no way fair.

But the Libs and their fear campaigns will scare labour off from even suggesting anything like this.

I've read some rubbish on this forum but this and some of the other recent posts takes the cake.
Let's tax the people more that work hardest and studied more because I'm not smart enough or don't work hard enough or didn't study hard enough to get a decent paying job or start a business with all the risks that come with that. Not to mention that everyone who makes a few quid rorts the system. You can't rort the system with your wages and those earning $180K plus DO pay roughly half of any $ over the $180K in tax and levies, you can't just keep plonking $100K into your super every year, you can't make a PROFIT of $5M selling a business and pay no tax, unless you've got accrued losses, there's so much BS in this post it's insane.
Nearly a third of ALL tax paid in Australia comes from the less than 4% that earn in excess of $180K and many here want to whack them some more, but hey don't let facts get in the way of a good whinge.
Some people on here are dead set communists. Let's make sure no one earns too much more than anyone else and the government should pay for everything for those who can't afford things, regardless of why. And those that don't earn the big money, it's because of generational discrimination or rich people ripping off the system. Typical tall poppy syndrome, instead of aspiring to achieve, smash the ones that do.

So you think running a good business and having some fortunate timing (Insurance broker who was bought out by a large player) entitles you to receiving $5M tax free? Their admin staff paid more tax on their annual salary $60K than they did on $5M.
And, they could use the business sale to get more money into a tax free (at that time) environment (Super).

"work" the hardest is an interesting phrase. They worked a standard week (2 partners) and had great flexibility. They were smart enough to get good staff/systems.
If you work in the tax space you see some stuff that just doesn't seem fair.
The people who work the hardest presumably don't need an inheritance, so what's the problem?

This is actually a really good move by Albo IMO. Moving to reduce the top rate of tax back down from $200k to $180k. Leave the other tax rate changes there but increase the tax free allowance.
Keeps the tax rate changes in there to halt any political fallout amongst middle income earners but also clearly pitched to their core voters.
