Talking Politics

Fair points made by this article.

But don’t think this strategy is used by just one side of politics. It’s just a political strategy full stop.

Sure, but there are degrees and Dutton is taking it to the nth

The other major parties, Labor and the Greens do not spred deliberate lies constantly like the Libs and Nats now do.

Political parties have always used 'scare campaigns' on major policy change, rarely accurately, but the new practice by the Libs and Nats is to constantly pump out false information to build distrust amongst voters- distrust of their opponents, distrust of the media (which laughably supposedly favours Labor) and distrust of the political system (which supposedly favors Labor).

The old practice of scare campaigns may have won an election or 2, but it didnt affect society more widely, the new tactics do- as we saw to the extreme after the last election in the US.

Funny! Which part is crap?

As an aside Dutton has been criticised again this week by security figures for using the Israel/Palestine situation for political point scoring risking inflaming tensions in Australia.

Amazing how Dutton and Co, yes the MSM, have turned Robodebt and Detainee fiascos into positives for them, and blaming ALP for the way they have attempted to clean up the mess they made over their ten years in Government. No mention by Murdoch and others that these schemes now declared illegal, were set up by LNP. So according to MSM all was ALP fault.

Running a scare campaign because the policies put in place when you were in government blow up in our faces is a bit rich.

Than again, when the right wing MSM is on your side I suppose you just get away with that sort of crap.

Shoking. He's making Australia a less safe place to live for all of us.

I never thought I would hate an Australian political leader as much as I detested John Howard and how he introduced the politics of fear into Australia. Then came Tony Abbott, then came SCOMO and now Dutton.
I am not an ALP supporter but these buffoons leave me with no choice.

Maybe you could provide evidence of the Greens supporting Hamas and Hezbollah? (Of course you can't because there isn't any). I will wait for it ......
The Greens have called for a ceasefire, have denounced all violence including by Hamas and called for support for the Palestinian statehood cause.
I only wish other political parties had the courage to do the same. Whilst I am not a Greens supporter I support their view on this issue

I'm a leftie, but I used to work in the political spere so you become a bit neutral when it's your job. The right wing of politics used to have some kind of coherent philosophy but they seem to have given up on that and replaced it with straight up nonsense. The stuff that comes out of their mouths these days is turning off anyone with half a brain. So you are correct-there is no viable choice at the moment.

They do have some sort of philosophy, it mainly consists of free market fundamentalism and although there is a wavering on social issues the majority of those involved in politics seem to want to wind back gains such as abortion on demand and the like, but they know it won't fly so not overt about this.

It isn't a philosophy a much as a strategy, but they do promote wild conspiracy theories, extrapolate any progressive opinions into something they bear no relationship to - this sort of stuff is simply negative politics to attempt to win votes by throwing sh!t at their opponents, unfortunately it does tend t work.

Of course, they rely on ignorance to push overly simplistic opinions on various events along with overly simplistic, and unrealistic, solutions - for an example see above.

IMO, there are 2 factors at play here.
1. The LNP stealing the GOP playbook with their divisive politics. The referendum result will only entourage more of this crap. But its not an election winning strategy in Australia.
2. Pentecostals taking over the LNP. More and of these nutters are winning preselections and they are trying to weed out the moderates. Bridget Archer will be next.

On your second point, it is a result of the historically low party membership base. The conservative side of politics never had the mass membership numbers to rival the left. And now the right's numbers are so low that it's been easy for the religious right to take over at the grass roots level and exert an undue influence on preselection. I'm not sure where they go from here to be honest. Their future is not looking bright.
