Sydney Stack

There’s no doubt Covid has affected Stack. That’s not an excuse, it’s a fact.
Maybe he was always going to struggle with the longer term professionalism requirements of footy but as we all know this year has been as far from normal as it gets.
Syd is an extrovert. He clearly loves to perform, loves the show. I know he had plans pre covid of using his footy platform to move into formats like acting & rapping. Whether he was going to be successful in that caper isn’t the issue but they were his dreams as seen by his TikToks etc. When covid first struck I think like many in creative industries he started to question that future & focus started to wander. Possibly he’s dealing with depression as well. Pre season 2020 without club structure & facing an uncertain future? Difficulty started there..
Maybe his early successes went to his head too quickly too.
I just think it’s wrong for people to cast judgment on people unless you’ve walked in their shoes.
Syd is 20. 20 year olds often lose their way. Just cut the kid a bit of slack when it comes to personal attacks.

I can't make out which one he was in the fighting video (was hardly a brawl). Was he the guy in the black or the guy in the yellow? Guy in the black seemed to be the aggressor, guy in the yellow was retreating and then gave the guy in the black a body shot to put him down.

I'm a massive fan of Syd, will go with whatever the club decides, but fear this might be the straw that broke the camels back.

Syd has now had three Covid breaches, for his own sake it might be best to put an electronic monitor on him.

Syd is in yellow.

Yes, I'm sure things would have been different without Covid, training, playing and the Korin Gamadji Institute would have kept Syd focused.
The off season is where Syd was likely to wander off the path.

Club needs to decide if they can help Stack develop into the player/man he could be with his skills without it negatively impacting the rest of the team/squad.

He is a kid. So much growing up to do and he is unfortunately making some mistakes that he should know better.

Personally I think the club should get around him and give him the proverbial hug after a massive smack on the behind. In the grand scheme of things his indiscretions are minor but there is a pattern here.

Just remember it takes years and years to iron out any in grown behaviour issues.

Big difference between Marlion and Stack, Marlion had children and a wife when he was sent to jail.

The reality check was profound and changed his life.

Maybe the best thing for Stack would be if the judge gives him six months in jail for his Covid breeches.

Stack needs a reality check not indulgence.

From Richmond's point of view the line in the sand moment for Stack must be fast approaching.

1 unfit after the 6 week Covid layoff.
2 Covid breech in the hub
3 Returns to training out of shape
4 Covid breech in W.A.
5 Involved in a brawl

At some point Stack must be responsible for his own life and not expect others to clean up the messes he leaves behind.

there was another Covid breach after kebab gate in WA where he got a warning from WAPolice in october so that’s 6

I don't think there will be any decision by the club in the short term. It is not important to make a list decision on him right now that can be done once all the legal issues and welfare issues are clear.
Apart from that the club is closed for a few weeks
I would prefer a decision be made at the time all who need to be involved can be.
It may not do Sydney any harm to stew for a few weeks and wonder what his future holds.

Seems like him and the Freo AFLW player are no longer together going by their Instagram accounts having removed pics of one another.

I thought the issue may have been when he was away from our club environment, but he was up there with the boys when kebabgate happened.

It’s hard to disagree with the argument that he’s had a lot of chances. However, as others point out, he’s had a far rougher upbringing and backstory than anyone but Pickett (who of course was older when drafted, and had created a solid family structure to support and motivate him).

From the sounds, the club has bent over backwards already; the other players may be ticked off by his behaviour; and he may never have the maturity and discipline to make it. But I would persevere - for the biggest reason. This could be the slow motion car crash we’re watching. Like with Ben Cousins, we know how this will end if he loses footy.

The guy retreating and coming in to help out ccj. Def not the aggressor.
