Blight on 26 April 2018, before the Pies Tiges game, from www.aflnation.com.au:

Are Richmond going as well as what we think and are Collingwood better than what we’ve thought, it’s a fascinating game Sunday.

Blight said he’s been won over by Nathan Buckley’s coaching and loves the pace of the side he’s put together in the last few weeks.

The Collingwood team at the moment with that slick handball and the pace they’ve got, it’s crept up on you,” he said.

I think we’ve all queried Nathan Buckley at some stage about when they’re going to make the eight again, well write these names down, Sidebottom, De Goey, Stephenson’s brand new, Treloar, Varcoe and Murray, they are the quickest blokes in the league I reckon.

“Nathan Buckley I believe has changed his coaching and I believe he did it after his first two games.

Collingwood, now 11th, won 1 of their last 3 by barely surviving the Lions up North.

Flog.

Old news
He’s off the Collingwood wagon and now on West Coke.
WC are the real deal.
Fast, slick midfield
Coach has changed his style
Exciting game plan they have.

Heard the Blight take on SEN but people beat me to it!

Guy still hasn't recovered from the beatings we gave North in the 70's and losing the 74 GF to the Tigers!

Culture. Well I'm sure if the Crows had won the GF in 2017 their culture would have something he would have been talking up how great it's become and the Texan what a great captain and GF he played.

Oh what, the RFC won the GF and culture is overrated.

Funny that when you lose a GF hey Blighty????

Sen today... not talking about richmond, just the state of the game and he found a way to put us down again..
'2 years ago Richmond didnt have a culture and after wimming a premiership all of a sudden they have a culture'

In fairness i think he was mocking the constant references to 'culture and values, and what teams stand for' rather than having a go at Richmond.
His point was to the outside world we had a bad 'culture' until we won the premiership now suddenly we are what all teams aspire to. He said it is more important to have good footballers playing well than what you 'stand for'.

Sure, but that comes under the umbrella of culture. Players holding each other and themselves to certain standards.

Blight was a free-wheeler as a player so he might be saying ability is king, but I doubt we'd have won a flag with that mantra.

It's all good. Love us or hate us, they are talking about us.

Fair enough, IMO he is fundamentally wrong though. The two are inextricably linked, to get your good footballers playing well and consistently and for the team you need a good culture. Also every side has a core of good players, with a good club culture with a clear vision you can turn it around quickly, recruiting good players around them, developing what you have got to its best etc etc. He doesn't get it.

also a good culture takes a long time to build, all these other sides are saying 'geez they have a good culture, lets get one'. Ain't that simple.

We knocked him off the Collingwood bandwagon, lets hope we do the same with West Coke on Sunday.

also, if you have ego driven *smile* heads in charge (and there is a massive global over supply of these), you have pretty much zero chance of building one.

all hail Benny, Peggy and Dimma

off the top of my head, the only sides to win the flag in the last 25 years with poor cultural footings was probably West Coast in '06 and #lolNorth in '99. Back in the day when you could smoke crack and root your teammates wife on friday and still win on Saturday.

Not sure if it was bad culture or bad eggs, but doggies falling off a cliff is very relevant

bit of a perfect storm for them with injuries, some individuals with not so great behaviour, big money star with mental issues, retirement. Their list consistency has suffered since their flag.

Not sure either, but falling back quickly happens quite a bit with young sides that shoot up the ladder - West Coast post-2006, Hawthorn missing the finals in 2009, Collingwood post-Malthouse, Port after their last prelim. It's the older teams that are better able to sustain a stay at the top and carve out an "era".

Think Ol Blighty said the Pies/Tigers game was like a 'grand final' leading up to that game.
Funny that I don't remember us standing on the dais after victory. :spin :p

But we did get to stand on their dreams which is more than good enough after the media harlots whipped into a frenzy thinking they were elite and Premiership faves.

Of course he is. He'll be on whoever he thinks can beat us. Anyone know what Richmond did to him to engender the hatred? I get it with Manure, he was Carlton when the players hated each other on and off the field, but not Blight.

Blight thinks he's
a) intellectual
b) a comedian
c) an intellectual comedian

He's none of those things.

Couldn't give a rats toss bag what he says....except for "I couldn't give a rats toss bag" which was by far the best thing he's ever said!

Great stat.
Last time Essendon won a final : 2004 Elimination Final, beat Melbourne by five points.
Last time they won one without Sheedy coaching : 1968 Preliminary Final over Geelong, Jack Clarke coaching.

Brings back the memories of Essendoom being a non event through the 70s...couple of elim losses but otherwise made up the numbers.... Would rival current era for their worst ever. Sheedy certainly turned them around.

As we never had any modern day rivalry with them I could never work out why their fans had so much vitriol for us in the 90s and 00s. That's why our win on the Sheedy Hird love fest game was one of my best memories of this century until last year!

Yeah had to laugh at Blight this morning, he's definitely got a burr in his pants from us, never forget those last quarter scenes in the GF, he looked like he was sitting on a cucumber such was the disbelief on his face. Too Funny. he can't let it go.
