Steve Morris F/S

Jeez, some of you jump off quick. Defenders sometimes get pantsed by forwards. Forwards are better players, it happens.

Really??? Scarlett, Dench, Silvagni, Archer, Bourke, Fletcher, Doull, Wanganeen, McLeod, Sheedy...

Can you tell I was a backman when I played :hihi

Noticed against the Swans that he 'paddled' the ball in front of himself rather than taking possession.
Smacks of looking for a free kick rather than taking them on.

May be a confidence thing?

he has always done that. i dont think he has the cleanest hands, but his 'paddling' is often effective.

on criticism of Morris, he hasnt been as involved offensively this year as he was last year, but his defensive work has still generally been top notch. I couldnt see who he played on on Sunday, and perhaps he suffered from not having a clear opponent. Walters got him the week before by being able to exploit Morris's weakness. The ball in the air. He has improved a lot in this area since coming to Richmond, but against a strong marking opponent can still struggle.

but overall calls to drop him are way off the mark. IMO.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that people were praising his recruitment and how they loved watching him play etc?

Yep, he is going through a 'down' phase but IMO (I'm typing the IMO due to the need to be explicity on the Dusty thread ;) no reason to stick the boots in.

Hopefully Steve will be back to his bustlin' best for the game against the Poo Browns.

Go Tigers!

He's been very good in most games apart from the last 2 and the one against North when Boomer slapped him.
Can't be a coincidence that 3 of his last 4 have been ordinary...must be a bit sore.
He actually looks to be more reactive out there than proactive.

agree, Start of the season he was very good.
Lately has dropped off a bit.
think he needs some support down back to lighten the load.
Backline needs more Grime

Great player and great team man. I think we will find he has been hampered by compunding injuries. Can't deny his value to us and his courage.

I think this has been by design. Get tighter on your opposition. I don't mind, I think he's one of the best small stoppers there is. Plays a couple of poorer games and the knives are out. Typical. Has overall been tremendous this year, hpefully his form will pick up again.

Amazed at the negativity surrounding Morris.

We've been screaming for a good small defender for years. We finally snag one, and a Richmond supporting one at that, played better than could be expected, rarely beaten.

Then has a dip in form and he's a dud we need to improve on if this club is serious about being a final contender.

I think he has had a good season. Was average against Freo and maybe a little against Sydney but very, very few play 22 good games in a season. If he played like that for the rest of the year it might be an issue but he won't. Looking forward to the battle between him and the '2nd best' Rioli this weekend.
