would someone who understands draft rules explain what happened? Why couldn't we get this guy under father son rules? What have we traded away for him?
We traded our pick 14 for GWS pick 15. Gone down 1 pick.
Because supposedly Port were in the mix, if we were prepared to F/S son him, it could go to a bid off. Port were prepared to use their 2nd round pick which meant we would have had to use our second rounder, pick 37.
Which we wanted to keep.

thanks for the explanation willo (and IanG) ! I guess all we can do now is say "welcome aboard" Steve and may you thrash many opposition forwards :)

Griffen looking more likely to remain at Freo - opens up Maric to PA a smidge

Adelaide are asking too much for Maric, he could just as well end up in the PSD. If we were to target any ruckman with a high pick, I would hope its Griffin. Wishful thinking on my part.

Maybe, but I think Hartley has done his research. It's not certainty for me either, but there is plenty of upside with him IMHO. Griffin staying in WA apparently.

Welcome to Tigerland Stevie :clap

May you have a long and fruitful career at Punt Road ;)

From his highlights he looks like he has had 10 cups of coffee and a few no doze tablets before he plays . Manic . He doesn't look overly polished but he sure doesn't leave much behind .

Loved his father as a player as he was strong , tough and uncompromising and I hope Steve is the same .

I found this link in the comments section of the H_Sun. It shows him dishing out a (slightly late!) bump, that leads to a bit of a wrestle.

Like the way he goes about it. When he does lose his feet he's very quick to pop back up. Should nickname him Viagra.

Here's an early call. He'll become an RFC favorite, much like Kingy did in his first year.

Welcome aboard Stevie. Geez he's hard at it and courageous. And a lot quicker than i thought from watching the Foxtel Cup.

Great get by us.

What concerns me is the accurate reporting of the deal in the media days before the deal could have been concluded. What if Port Adelaide (or any other club) had used these reports to gazump us once trade week had started.

There's heaps of rumours prior to trade week that have not been finalized eg the bs of Maric to us for our Tambling compensation pick. This I don't mind. But when they get this accurate, I wonder who's been talking to the journos?

I guess that depends on why GWS did the deal.

If they did it for the pick swap then agree, there wasn't much in it for them.

But if they did it to screw PA back after having to pay for Brogan & Cornes, or if they did it because Sheedy likes the F/S and/or is doing an old premiership team mate a favour, then Port never had that sort of currency to gazump us.

DUD ....... DELIST !!!!!

There now hes been intiated properly to the RFC.

Nice use of the trade by the RFC (havent said that too often before).

Now hopefully the kid can provide a much needed edge down back that has alluded the club for infinatum lets see how he goes.

Welcome to the RFC SOK and best wishes for a successful career at the tigers.

Probably would have been suspended for 3 weeks for that sling tackle where he wrenched it off the other guy.

haha was an awesome bump by Steve, but in the afl he would have a nice 4 week holiday for that.
