Steve Morris F/S

Pretty sure the opposition crap themselves when they see him coming.

And they also don't rate him so stand off him, both in F50 and I notice at a kick in after a behind.

Appreciated his desperation play last night, it does bring something to the team.

But a drop-off of 5% will be disastrous...and magnified because of his other limitations.

Sat behind the goals city end. Morris was playing out of the square and leading forward. The three talks were starting in a triangle out near the 50m arc. Whoever had McPharlin (mostly Jack) was getting on their bike and getting up the ground. It looked like it was a deliberate plan to get the Freo marking defenders out of the hotspot in front of goals. It worked well and was assisted when Johnson was injured.

I think this plan helped Morris because he played as a leadip forward rather than a true small forward.

In the last quarter he actually went back and took Walters after he kicked his third.

I did think of your post when I gave Minor a vote

For me 11 disposals and no tackles does equate with a great game.

Morris doesn't get many tackles because he always seems to make it to the drop of the ball and contests at ground level.

Easily best game for year. I have been / am a critic of Morris being part of a premiership team. His capabilities match what a team needs against Freo. Well planned by the coaching team and executed by the fwds, including Morris - IMO.

Pass mark for the first time this year.

Looked better in defence in the last.
May be time to start him in defence and see if he has now learned from time spent forward, keep his feet etc

He played well last night, his pressure was good, still a lunatic helicopter arms attack on anything in front of him player, but he did a good job applying pressure for 4 quarters.

Yep.

Was just a bit of DellyMorris settling in period n getting all warm n cosy in his new position on the ground. Noticed he still has a tendency to try n sneak down back to his old comfy corner n harass opposition forwards when he's got nothing better to do.

For god's sake, keep him out of the defence. Its just starting to look super solid.

Was effective, particularly early.

Funny that I thought Morris was good and Walters poor and Walters ends up with 3. Those forward instincts and skills are pure gold.

Scary that Walters missed a couple of sodas early in the game that would have kept them in the hunt. Bloke has a crap game n barely touches the pill yet should have had five instead of three. We'd all love one like him or Betts etc hoovering the carpet up forward.

One of these days he's going to take a hanger. I'm surprised at his ability to get up for a mark.

He's becoming consistent and a contributor.

Gotta give the guy credit for doing everything he can to help the team. Changing position, running around like a lunatic on red cordial overdose. Respect him.

Start to become convinced.

The value of his pressure on the opposition can be argued but what I liked most on Friday was his attack on the football.
He was making the ball his objective and hitting it hard & fast. Then setting up play.
That's what has been missing for much of the season.
If he gets the ball first it makes him a lot more valuable.
Big step forward for Morris. Played pretty well.

Yep Big step forward. Only another hundred to go before he becomes the small forward we need. Still not convinced he can make it in that role and is too error prone in defence. We need an upgrade on Morris to be a top 4 side

Anyone notice how he went up for that hanger and his hands were originally outstretched in front, then at the very last moment he thought he'd take a chest mark instead, so he turned his hands sideways and the ball hit him in the head?

I think Jake also dropped a hanger by changing his mind and attempting a chest mark at the last minute. They get higher than anticipated, so change their mind... perhaps? Just set yourself mentally to take it out in front regardless, as there is less thinking involved. Leave the high flying chest marks to the Ablett's and Roach's and Richo's.

You're not going to hold a chest mark for as long when you fall to earth, so take it out in front where the umpire is more likely to pay it. Solid game against tough opposition. Despite his lack of polish, he's one of my first picked come finals.

Any chance Morris can possibly trouble the scoreboard
When you play forward must kick goals
