"Jayden Short
10 disposals, two goals
Was fairly good in his half-forward role. Had four or five shots for goal, successfully converting two of them. We expect him to tackle and apply more pressure inside 50, however. That’s something we have been working on with him. To hit the scoreboard four times, and to provide energy inside our forward 50 area, is what we expect."
No, you're not on the wrong thread.
My question is a simple one: why are the guys in the ressies expected to hit the scoreboard and provide manic pressure whereas Morris is only expected to do the latter?
And before you reply with your well reasoned answers, don't bother, I'm not listening ;D

SCOOP said:The Short man is on his way. Morris is overdosing on the physical stuff to make up on the class and goal kicking.
J.Short is overdoing on class and goal kicking, when the over stuff gets 60% to what Morris is doing, he will take the spot.
rhul said:So, is there a double standard? Do all other small forwards have to provide pressure and kick goals whereas Morris only has to apply pressure?
Or is it simply that the coaches rate pressure above kicking goals and therefore the bloke who is doing the former will always get the nod above the bloke doing the latter?
If that's the case, I just wish they'd come out and say it. Then maybe Donuts, Short and the like can stop wasting their time trying to win the ball.
The reason they don't say it, of course, is because it's ridiculous.
It's hard not to conclude from all this that the various reasons and rationales the club provides are secondary to the fact that the coaches - for whatever reason - trust Morris above the alternatives.
Again, fine. But just come out and say that. Don't pretend otherwise.

speaking of omitting some key stats, there was the small matter of 4 goals to go with the zero spoils and clearances. I appreciate these may not be high value KPI's but probably still worth a small mention.Chimptastic said:That's like saying Jack Riewoldt had 16 touches, zero spoils, and zero clearances.
How can you analyse a player's stats by omitting some of the key stats by which his role is measured? It's pretty obvious what he's primarily asked to bring to the table and it's not marks or handballs.
