9 disposals ( 6 kicks, 3 handballs) @ 56% efficiency, 2 marks, 7 tackles, 0.2, no assists, 88% Time on ground.

That's like saying Jack Riewoldt had 16 touches, zero spoils, and zero clearances.

How can you analyse a player's stats by omitting some of the key stats by which his role is measured? It's pretty obvious what he's primarily asked to bring to the table and it's not marks or handballs.

Shame there is no stat that shows inside 50s straight after a pressure act. I reckon the main benefit we get is when Port tried to get it out there kicks were rushed and resulted in turn overs, or at a minimum there was no slingshot out of our forward line that resulted in goals.

If you think he is to be measured only on pressure acts then I'm sure you'll think he's done very well, so be it.

Another game where we played 5 vs 6 on offense.

Not sure any other team in the league would stick with this experiment. But we'll see how this revolutionary tactic pans out purposely playing a guy in a forward line who is incapable of kicking goals.

He forced turnovers and his team mate gets the ball but morris doesn't get a stat.
The sillies on here who have targeted him aren't correct.
When lennon conca McDonough etc do enough to take his spot away then so be it.
But they'll have to improve to do it.
And that's good for the footy club.

Pretty sure it's Dimma's main reason for having him in the team. Plenty of more talented players, but few harder working n Dimma and the club desperately need more of our talented players working just as hard as Morris does.
Apart from our dodgy first qtr against Colonwood, we've put together some fantastic all team work rate n pressure these last two games. Never out of the game when everyone chips in with the hard work n plenty of opportunities to get rewarded with goals n wins.

These.

How do you solve a problem like Steve Morris?

Play him in our back line and watch him destroy our structures? Nup. Reality check.
Play him in the opposition's back line and watch him destroy theirs? Yep.

Is he the skilled 'triple threat' forward we need?
.
.... Chances are greater that Raquel Welch was my wet nurse.

BUT ( yes it is a big one ), Steve Morris is under no illusions as to his ability, and yet I don't know why we are.

He still PUTS HIS HAND UP and sups from the poison chalice for the team.

He does this by asking more of his skills and natural talent than he has a right to, and through sheer will power, looks to create 'something' for the team.

That is leadership. That is setting an example, benchmark, criteria whatever. Non negotiable intangibles IF we are ever going to make it.

Now, I'm pretty sure we drafted Lennon, Lloyd etc. to give us some firepower up forward.

Do they have better skills? Sure.

Work rate?

Commitment?

Willingness and humility to extract every ounce of their ability? No matter if the price is ridicule while trying in a very public arena?

Do they play ' The Richmond Way' which is the above rolled into an ethos the club is desperately trying to use as a foundation stone to build future success on?

Right now, they're just like Jack Watts. Putting their hands up for a game in the 2's.

Steve's holding out the baton. Don't make him look stupid and fumble the change over, that would just undo all his hard work.

Was his best game for the year last night. His pressure was excellent, definitely earned his spot. Was a shame that he couldn't follow up his big mark with a goal.
Yep it was a shame he didn't score, Morris led the way with that pressure and the turnover where Menadue goaled was the result of that hard work.

Not convinced that pinball is even better than that other SANFL dud we recruited a few years back, Ben Nason. He was a goer too, chased and tackled but he actually kicked the odd goal or two.

Ok i'm sold. I'm on the Morris bandwagon which i'm tipping is a lonely place.

Though there are proboably 3 or 4 from the RFC match commitee on it.

the bus is slowly filling up. ;D

Has it got room for a pin ball machine ?

Morris should be the footsteps of death for slingshot teams.

Shoulda worked against north, didn't.

Worked beautifully against the Rutger Hauer (thanks zgod) and he fully deserves a chance to give essendon the squirts on Satdee.

This from Tim Clarke:

"Jayden Short
10 disposals, two goals

Was fairly good in his half-forward role. Had four or five shots for goal, successfully converting two of them. We expect him to tackle and apply more pressure inside 50, however. That’s something we have been working on with him. To hit the scoreboard four times, and to provide energy inside our forward 50 area, is what we expect."

No, you're not on the wrong thread.

My question is a simple one: why are the guys in the ressies expected to hit the scoreboard and provide manic pressure whereas Morris is only expected to do the latter?

And before you reply with your well reasoned answers, don't bother, I'm not listening ;D
