Great doco doing the rounds only at a few cinemas (saw it at Brighton Bay) is 'Searching For Sugar Man' about the music artist Rodriguez who released 2 albums in the early 70's that both failed to sell, but his first album (Cold Fact) become a massive underground hit in Apartheid Sth Africa. - and in Australia as I've since discovered.

Doco tracks 2 South African fans who try to find out what happened to him as there were a number of myths that he had met his demise, but there was no information anywhere about him.
At the time he was being touted as the Latin Bob Dylan. His parents were Mexican who moved to Detroit for work and he used to sing in the bars there before being offered a recording deal. Cool looking dude with a distinctive voice. You can you tube Rodriguez or Sixto Rodriguez to see some recent video footage - he is now 70 and touring again.

'Sugar Man' is the first song on Cold Fact and is one that can just stick in your head - check it out.

Was listening to some of his stuff the other day and was given a disc of his by a friend just yesterday. Is currently, or will be shortly, in Aus.

Next April apparently. Pre-sale tickets will be on sale this week (for his Brisbane shows anyway). Will also be at the Byron Bay Blues festival.

I listen to electronic, jazz, metal, rock, pop even C and W but when I want to be BLOWN AWAY,I listen to 70s prog.

Nothing beats it!

This music was never big here because there are too many Andrew DImwittios running and farking up the music industry!
The bands that were great got shunted by the piggy record companies anyway.

Another 1973 classic!

Yes, remember the song.
Also, liked the use of the graphics, taken from Bosch's medieval painting the Triptych, Hell.

My son sent me a message that The Stranglers will be performing at Billboard, Melbourne on December 4th.
I would like to go.

This was probably the most famous Tubes song:

But the Stranglers were more accomplished and prolific.

The Tubes get me more than The Stranglers especially the early albums imo.Music is a very personal thing though.

That Tubes song is from Young And Rich,my 2nd fav Tubes album Phanto.

This is a great track from 1980.
