Yep, I get the point- just wondered whether you knew anything about who we might have used our pick on instead. Out of interest.
Hard to take that Sydney got their cake and ate it too. Derickx doing ok and Nankervis in the crib for later. ::)

I don't think there's a lot of hindsight required here. PRE went into a semi meltdown in October last year.

It really sucks when you see a train wreck coming a mile off and you can't do anything about it. More so when so many others see it as well. Even the perverse satisfaction of being able to say 'I told you so' doesn't make up for having thrown away a second rounder. Hopefully someone will be made accountable for this or at least made to sweat bullets.

Not sure if its been mentioned before but dont have the time to go thru hundreds of posts to find out....

Looking at a pic of Shaun attempting to mark the ball in the HS his hands are nowhere near the ball
Found this on the RFC site-
He struggled with short-sightedness early in his league career and had laser surgery before 2012 season to correct it

Maybe the surgery wasnt 100% successful in correcting his short-sightedness and its still an issue for him ?

Thats my whole point. Id rather see us use the pick and risk getting a champion, than a very average third stringer.
Spackler is right.
Imagine if Hampson 'HAD' turned out to be a solid performer.
How many of you keyboard heroes would have wished in hindsight that we should have used
the draft pick on an untried tall junior who'd take years to develop when our opportunity was now..

Hahaha ...... I didn't know that, it could explain a few things. Maybe there are a few players that need a sight test!

I would not change my view if Hampson is or does turn out to be a solid performer. i would expect giving away pick 32 at the very least he is solid. Having a solid Ruckman may be acceptable to you. But i think but we should aim higher by trying to develop our own and risk getting a champion.

Hewett, Kennedy-Harris or Docherty would look nice in Y&B. Fair enough our recruiters didn't rate this draft crop but Hampson had never shown anything more than average form either. He was just as speculative as any youngster IMO.

Thing is, TigerBalm, many on PRE who are astute football followers were quick to declare dissatisfaction with the recruitment of Hampson.
The evidence is, to date, that with Hampson on the list RFC is likely to waste a position for "an untried junior" for three years.

Who are the astute football followers ? Is there an official list or are they self-proclaimed ?

It's very easy to knock or cast doubt on everything the club does knowing full well the law of averages are on your side. As they are for the ferals of all sides.

Need to transplant Hampson's leap onto Ivan. For all the big fella's effort and grunt, he got murdered at the taps after half time. The rot started from there.

The club obviously thought they were gonna dig another diamond out of the rough like they did with Maric. What they got instead is a guy that can't play football. Simple as that. Astute football followers? Ha! Ask any bloody Carlton supporter for starters!!

I can understand Hampy getting picked after being dropped....his game in the VFL last week was his best attempt since joining the RFC.......

Glad he is in and I wish him well. Last week Goldstein was bOG vs Maric, would not of happened if it was Hampson. Hampson must play vs Sandilands.

agree. starred last week at VFL and A.Edwards was on fire. Also Newman walk up start at any club has to come straight back in. A no brainer. A flag is in sight with these champs.

Unfortunately as much as we question the inclusion of Hampson this week we are desperately short of alternative rucking options. With TV out, Griff hopelessly out of form and Elton still trying to get continuity we only have Orren and this big lump so the choice is limited. Not saying I agree with it but what is done is done.

A big man who with his size only managed two marks today. I have seen cleaner hands with a footy from a ball boy. He set his pretty low standards early on in the first half when he was right in front of goal and a pin point pass by Foley sailed neatly through his hands when all ne needed to do was close them but his mind doesn't appear to compute that fast. From memory he managed the same skill at least twice more. Not the big man answer we are looking for.
I take back my comments about the Big O as at least he tries

Play the Big O any day before Hampson.
Yet this situation is nevertheless a rather poor reflection on the quality of ruck stocks at RFC.
