Why can you see it, but blokes that get paid come up with decisions in recruiting guys like him and Grigg?
He was a shocking player at Carlton (would've been delisted if not traded)
And where not the vest club turning players careers around either which doesn't help either.
He is dud, he needs to go

Yep the jokes on us, when all the talk on bootsma several days back blues supporters saying dont worry Richmond will pick him up, ahh a dig at us but a true reflection of targeting duds off them in grigg and hampson

Let's see subbed off twice in the last three weeks because of abysmal form and finally dropped. Yep we're on a winner here!

His tap work has proven of little advantage (and for what it's worth apart from ensuring that an opposition ruckman does not compete unopposed, I think it's an overrated element of the game anyhow) and he's play around the ground has ranged from non-existent to putrid.

But sure I'll get behind him, I'll cheer him on in the VFL where he belongs and hopefully will stay for the rest of his three year contract. As I've said before, a second round draft pick flushed down the toilet.

I'm not as pessimistic, lets just see how Maric fares then. Very overrated IMO.

A shocking decision to recruit him and someone should be held to account for throwing the pick away. There was no win win with this trade.
Who should we have used the pick on?? Tell us

AS said elsewhere.

Not against him being recruited initially, but a 3 year contract?

Yup. Thats a different matter. I was responding to the waste of a pick comment

Don't get me wrong- i think he is a muppet and didn't agree with recruiting the guy. Just hear the old 'wasted pick' line used a lot and keen to hear what those who hold that view think we should have used the pick on

It looks like we made a blue. I don't think its a hanging offence personally, but at this stage it looks like a blue. Hindsight is pointless and easy, but you can't help it at times, in hindsight, we could have kept derrickx (not much good but no worse than Hampson so far), and used the pick on Kennedy Harris.

I still have some hope Hampson will improve, but not looking good so far.

Whoever the best kid that would have been available at pick 32.

I don't think there's a lot of hindsight required here. PRE went into a semi meltdown in October last year.

It did too, makes wonder what on earth the so called professional recruiters were thinking in their recruitment of Hampson.

'semi' is the key word there. PRE goes into semi-meltdown all the time. Sometimes the meltdowners are right, sometimes they aren't. It doesn't mean anything.

We should have known, after all he was a blue.

Point taken, but PRE goes into semi-meltdown every October.

I would have rather taken a young 18 year old ruckman and tried to develop them. I know the idea of developing an 18 year old ruckman is a novel idea at Richmond, but would have much preferred this, than wasting pick 32 on this blonk.

Sssshhhhh! Don't tell anyone but I'm pretty sure we just did this by recruiting young Beanie. Only problem with mega tall 18 y.o. ruck men is that you usually don't see any results for the first three years n then only snippets for another year or two after that.

A couple of man mountain mega rated young ruck men of recent years in Nic Nat, still only snippets n plenty of injuries, n Grundy a bit more than snippets but also injury issues. It takes most kids of this height about five years plus to develop the physical capacity to stand up to the task of AFL ruck.

Thanks for your insight about young tall ruckman taking time to develop. What are you suggesting - we shouldn't try to develop ruckman and instead continue to give up picks to get second and third stringer ruckman from other clubs like Maric and Hampson? I prefer what Collingwood have done who have two kids in Grundy and Witts (19 and 21) showing a lot of promise.

Also Re: McBean being developed to play in the ruck -is he playing much in the ruck? I get the impression he plays mostly as a forward?
